Re: Arrow Announcements, Speculation & Wild, Irresponsible Conjecture
Here's my earlier post on the subject which just shows how wrong I and Arrow could be. It really is a dog's dinner of a selection and as for 'Lies and deceit? ,Well who's gonna carry the can for that one? Madame Bovary?
I have an ominous feeling that we are not going to see the ones that the majority are yearning for. I would love to be proved wrong but I see no indication that other than a botched Le Boucher the" 60's hits" are still in a wrangle. At present my ear is no longer to la terre francaise so maybe Tenia may be able to wade in with better news.
I would wager that the Carlotta 90's stuff would constitute BOX 1 and maybe for Box 2 an anglicisation and upgrade of the DVD Raretés box which contains 5 films:
A double tour, Les bonnes femmes, L'œil du malin, Landru, La ligne de démarcation. Some of which have made an entrance in blu separately.
The first two titles would surely bring a glow to a few faces on this forum.

Weird to tease an image from L'Enfer when the film isn't part of your announcement. A direct port of the MK2/Carlotta set would have appealed to me if Arrow fixed the yellow tint on La Ceremonie and the other film. Glad I held on to my Artificial Eye BD of La Ceremonie.

L'enfer is included. Torment is the English title.Finch wrote: ↑Fri Nov 26, 2021 12:05 pmWeird to tease an image from L'Enfer when the film isn't part of your announcement. My bad! I'm only looking at the product specs more closely now.
Edit: Are the 4k restorations for L'Enfer, Betty and Madame Bovary a worldwide first?

Yeah, this is like worst case scenario bad. Jesus, Arrow, four films already out on Blu from Cohen (with more film included, esp the Lavardin set, where the two TV movies are better than the theatrical ones) plus possibly the lowest priority Chabrol imaginable, the completely forgettable BovaryGlowingwabbit wrote: ↑Fri Nov 26, 2021 11:28 amHonestly that is an awful selection. I love Chabrol but I can't justify buying this.

Re: Arrow Announcements, Speculation & Wild, Irresponsible Conjecture
The 4k restos were released by Carlotta in France last year. L'enfer was first part of their 5 movies set but has since been released individually. Madame Bovary and Betty were released more recently, along the much better Une affaire de femmes (also restored in 4k).
Ophélia was just released by Gaumont on BD, also recently restored though I have yet to find how when and by who (I'd guess 2k not by Eclair).
I'm still under the impression that most of his earlier films are stuck in right-holdings hell, though it's been quite some years since the CNC grants were given for these never-performed restorations so it might move soon if the CNC decides to get the money back and shakes the whole thing. It's all quite foggy though, so it might not be the most up-to-date intels.
As for the boxset selection, I quite liked L'enfer but out of the 9 Chabrols I've seen thanks to the recent restorations, the other 2 (I haven't seen the 2 Lavardins) are clearly the ones I liked the most (I admit I even skipped forward a good chunk of Bovary).

I can't help but notice there's no Volume 1 mentioned.

A second volume may have a different theme?

They should have announced an alternative release instead of releasing 3 different releases for the Phenomena 4K.

Looks like they're all exactly the same except for the artwork. I actually don't mind this

Clue for Friday's announcements. It's being said elsewhere that this is for Mary Shelley's Frankenstein.

James Flower tweeted
Today I am producing (via Zoom) a brand new career-spanning interview with one of my favourite filmmakers for a comprehensive Arrow Blu-Ray boxset being released next summer. Very very very very very very very very very very exciting

And he replied to someone half-jokingly proposing a John Carpenter set that it isn't a "genre director"

Re: Arrow Announcements, Speculation & Wild, Irresponsible Conjecture
I don't know much about James Flower's taste, but it could be a Toshiaki Toyoda set in the USA? He's not a genre director, but he's definitely in Arrow's wheelhouse, he's alive, and I do own all three of Third Window's Toyoda releases in the UK, so it tracks.

Re: Arrow Announcements, Speculation & Wild, Irresponsible Conjecture
A Solondz set would be wonderful, but is there any precedent for it?
EDIT: Well, I had no idea none of his films are on Blu-ray in the UK, so there is at least a need.

As expected, Mary Shelley's Frankenstein is coming on UHD in March. A 2K restoration of the 1910 Edison Studios production is included as an extra, with music by Donald Sosin.

This is the first time that Sony licensed film has gotten a 4K release in the US/UK.

Is that ment for the Frankenstein or the Kenneth Brannagh completists?
