I thought Mommie Dearest was especially cruel towards Joan Crawford. Both the book and the movie coming after her death so there couldn't be another side of the story? Hollywood then adapting it, the industry Crawford spent her life in, seems rather unforgivable. It all just rubbed me the wrong way.

It's probably hypocritical of me to ask this question on this particular forum, but:

Who is buying these?

Without looking I guarantee even the worst of these is being greeted by "Finally" and "Day one"s from you-know-where

Wasn’t Pootie Tang written and directed by Louis CK? I guess cancel culture is a fake thing after all.

Where's Chairman of the Board???

In all seriousness, I'd like to see Nobody's Fool - it made money AND it was nominated for Oscars (Best Actor and Best Adapted Screenplay), so c'mon....

Robert Benton has been slept on far way too long. Nobody's Fool, Twilight, and Bad Company are so great. Nobody's Fool in particular feels so distant from today's Hollywood studio films; a mid-to-lower budget work aimed at mature audiences.

Nobody's Fool is also the one I'd like to see come to Blu-ray.

I actually blind bought Dead Man on Campus when it first came out on DVD and remember being incredibly disappointed with it as the dark plot sounded like it had some promise, but it ended up just being an even stupider than average teen movie that really couldn't go the distance with what it set up.

My friends loved it, though (and I'm not saying that in a judgy way) so we ended up watching that DVD a lot. Sold it off once it fell out of the rotation.

I assume it must have some following since it's getting a release now. Makes sense for Pootie Tang, which I know has a cult.

I completely forgot that Dear God (and Greg Kinnear) existed, so can't explain the reasoning behind that one

Cancel Culture only matters if the thing that could be canceled is big enough to be on the radar of Twitter and/or the mainstream media. Pootie Tang is far too niche to register on that scale.

Fortunately/sadly, so is The Pianist when released via a label like Shout Factory.

The unexpected method of Chris Rock's factory death is gold, otherwise I never got the appeal

My freshman year roommate will be purchasing Dead Man on Campus as soon as I tell him about this announcement. An an eccentric fellow and raging alcoholic, he and I watched it one long night at 4am, and his running joke for the rest of the year was concocting plans to kill me because he was failing out (he only actually half-tried once). Needless to say it's an ongoing dark joke that he will be amused by. The movie sucked though, even at that hour at that time of life and in that state of mind.

Still Smokin (1983) on (you guessed it) 4/20/21

This was supposed to come out in 2018 (alongside the release of Up in Smoke), but was canceled without explanation.

The 4K release of Almost Famous looks quite packed with extras, and also comes with a deluxe vinyl edition of the soundtrack.

I think the expanded soundtracks are being sold separately. And it’s very expensive.

Wow, that's a lot of exciting announcements. I was literally about to buy yesterday Bugsy Malone, thank God I didn't. This will do nicely and the fact that it's a new restoration is an added plus. I know there's no specs so far for it but every PP film has had a new 4k restoration done and I can't see this being any different.
As for Nashville and A Place in the Sun, I already have the Eureka and Imprint edition respectively. In the case of the former, I picked up the Eureka one as soon as the Criterion version went OOP. Right now I'm perfectly fine with that. It's a 2k restoration, has a terrific booklet, more extras and the original poster. I recently gave it a watch and thought it looked great. I know this will be a new 4k restoration, but I can't see it being that much of an upgrade. I guess I’ll wait to see if this is a substantial upgrade before buying.
As for A Place in the Sun, Paramount being Paramount, I can't see the restoration being any different than the Imprint one. The 4k master is generally fine, but as per usual with Imprint the encoding isn't the best. Imprint's edition only includes a 5.1 remix. Hopefully this release includes the original mono mix. I might end up buying it just for that. While I'm not one for slipcovers the packaging is beautiful, especially compared to the atrocious cover that PP one has.
Anyway, I'm happy for the people that missed out or don't have those editions though. I know that what really matters is the A/V, but those covers are terrible.

For a second there I was trying to figure out whether Nashville had some ill-fated sequel I'd somehow never heard of...

UHD set appears to be forthcoming this Fall for Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, and Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. Somewhat inexplicably leaving off the last two! As somebody who actually does like the fifth one I’m pretty sad it gets left in the lurch for the time being.

Maybe a second box for Final Frontier, Undiscovered Country and Generations, then one for First Contact, Insurrection and Nemesis?
