Same. Somehow I avoided the bootleg of this one forever, and it feels like the right choice. The footage in these clips looks great. Looking forward to being surprised by everything in high quality.

I've seen the poor-quality L'Amour Fou and I'm still extremely psyched for the new version, because it's an amazing film.

I've been filling in some of my Rivette gaps recently and I saw the restored, English-subtitled Va Savoir+ mentioned upthread — I'd really appreciate any tips about how to find that. Thanks in advance!

Radiance has mentioned a Rivette release being in the works but we still have no idea which movie it's gonna be.
And yeah, Radiance is basically run by Arrow's former "Director of Content", so you can expect the same level of quality from them.

Addendum: Oops -- I guess it was not Va savoir+ that was the rumored release. Well L'amour fou would be an instnt buy too.

That's amazing news if true. Seems we're on the verge of getting access to Rivette's complete filmography on (English-friendly) disc, which felt like a pipe dream just 10 to 15 years ago.

There's nothing to say it will be L'amour fou - it could be, but that's just speculation based on the new restoration. Worth noting that Fran has said previously that he would "definitely do" the Cohen Rivettes to right the shortcomings of those releases but that it wasn't likely to be for another couple of years; that was back in March so the second half of 2024 doesn't seem totally implausible.

Thanks for that link, domino-- what a valuable resource. The writings on Rivette by Jonathan Rosenbaum and Robin Wood that I was going to recommend are available there.

To these I would add recommendations for Mary Wiles' Jacques Rivette and James Monaco's The New Wave, though the latter only covers the films up through Celine and Julie.

Just got this newly published interview book that on cursory glance doesn’t seem to have much overlap with Tooze’s site. Excited to dig in

On the contrary; if I remember correctly (and I haven’t picked the book up after first purchasing), it seems like the majority of the content of that book is available on Tooze’s site and elsewhere on the web. There were no new translations (that I recall) and even places where there were ellipses, indicating certain passages were left untranslated, were retained in the book. There are several later interviews that I was reading for the first time, but I am pretty certain the first 175 pages or so I had read before, for free.

Very exciting. I suppose English subtitles are probably unlikely given there haven't been any on their last few Rivette releases.

I wonder if there's any chance Cohen will bring out the extended cut.
