Per the sales sheets, Amores Perros is licensed via Lionsgate.

Interesting. I had assumed that Lionsgate's rights had expired, so I wonder if this is a one off done at Iñárritu's insistence or something else?

I would think this is a one off with Lionsgate

Uncut Gems is licensed from Lionsgate, not direct from A24.

So I guess this opens the door for the mystery UHD to be The Limey.

I assume the filmmakers have to be involved to get Lionsgate to license these titles out. I seem to recall (in 2006) that Noah Baumbach had said he had to work with them to get them to license Kicking & Screaming to Criterion (but cannot find where this would have been posted) and it was a one-off, so I wouldn't be surprised if Iñárritu and the Safdie brothers had to do the same.

But the fact they're obviously more willing to license stuff out, especially fairly big titles that have a decent audience/following, is promising.

I can only guess they licensed the third Qatsi film out because they didn't see any value in releasing it on its own (who would buy it??) so might as well make something from it, or it was a holdover deal from when the film was still with Miramax/Disney.

Lionsgate has also licensed at least two titles to Severin: one of last year's Black Friday exclusive titles, No Way Home (I think it was this one) and the recently announced Midnight.

Chris, can you confirm if Lionsgate is listed as the licensor on the sell sheet?

I have the sell sheet. How else would I make a claim about the licensor?

Yep, as Ribs said Lionsgate is listed as a licensor. A24's logo also shows up on there, but it's not uncommon for multiple entities to be listed, and Lionsgate's placement suggests they are the primary licensor.

Oh ok, I assumed that Chris was the only person here who received the sell sheets.

Maybe because Sony is in the mix with distributing Lionsgate’s stuff now more might go because of Criterion’s relationship to them?

So, does this update mean that the floodgates could potentially be open for Miramax films?
