But that's true of a few titles that are now in the collection.

Re: The Criterion Channel -- Film and Content Discussion
Slant Magazine published a list of the 10 best westerns on the Criterion Channel.
I've seen all but two (The Violent Men, Day of the Outlaw).
I agree with their number one pick; one of the best westerns ever made.
Man of the West and Rancho Notorious were great discoveries for me, thanks to CC's "Western Noir" collection. I was unimpressed with I Shot Jesse James, though.

Re: The Criterion Channel -- Film and Content Discussion
I can't remember if it's been discussed in the thread, but are there major differences in the CC apps for the different streaming devices? I am thinking about getting a new device---been using the same (2nd gen?) Amazon Fire Stick for three years and it's been okay, though I don't care for the advert-intensive Amazon menu. CC performance has been very good but recently tried Mubi and I'm having a lot of trouble; it's possible wifi reception is not what it once was with this device. (But here I'm just curious if anyone has tried CC on multiple devices/apps through their TV, and is one better than others, specifically for CC or in general.)
I need good wifi reception...ethernet isn't an option for the time being.

Re: The Criterion Channel -- Film and Content Discussion
wifi depends a lot on who else in your neighborhood is using it, there's certainly a good number more people using it in my neighborhood than there used to be, so that supposedly clutters up the wifi waves and slows it down in general. That said I prefer wired anyway and don't bother much with wifi. Roku is fine by me, Apple TV seems to be all right now also. Oh and my ISP is no great shakes when it comes to internet bandwidth, but it's good enough to give me decent HD if the computers etc aren't too busy.

Re: The Criterion Channel -- Film and Content Discussion
I've seen a few murmurs about things coming to the channel next month already, which has me wondering: do they send out emails to press well before members, or is there some secret place I'm not looking? I don't see anything on the blog, in the Channel's various social accounts... In past months, I have the vague impression there's been a gap of a few hours between when I start seeing people talk about selections and when I get the email about what's coming up, but I always figured that was just their mailer working down the list.

I think that they send out a press release first. Anyways, here is a list of the titles coming in September: https://www.comingsoon.net/movies/news/ ... 020-lineup

Good to see a Tarr film on the docket (be even better to see a retrospective). But they picked a title I've never had the gumption to buy. Looking forward to it!

Good to see Schlöndorff get a reprise (there was a similar collection on FilmStruck, though at least one film I saw back then is missing: Calm At Sea).

Re: The Criterion Channel -- Film and Content Discussion
I couldn't be more excited to revisit Sátántangó. I've only seen it once over the course of two settings, but it left such a mark on me. One of the few benefits of COVID-19 and being stuck in my NYC apartment is that it isn't that hard to find time for an 8 hour film. As I approach 40, my patience for films over 3 hours long is dwindling (so happy I got most of those out of the way in college/grad school), but I couldn't be more excited to see this again (minus the cat scene).

Excellent lineup for September. However, I am disappointed by the lack of Greed in the featured literature classics.

Is there a reason some thumbnails show the film's running time while others don't? That has always bothered me.

“Collections” added you your queue usually don’t show runtime, but if you add just the film to your queue it will usually show you the run time on the thumbnail.felipe wrote:Is there a reason some thumbnails show the film's running time while others don't? That has always bothered me.

The site's layout is a bit confusing but here is the original film series as featured at BAM in 2019. Since the Criterion Channel series is going to mimic the original series, I don't imagine much will differ between then and now.yoloswegmaster wrote: ↑Sun Sep 20, 2020 11:09 amA series titled "Race, Sex & Cinema: The World of Marlon Riggs" is going to be added to the Channel next month

Glad to see Korean films being added, though it is strange that Oldboy is missing while the other 2 films in the Vengeance Trilogy is being added.

Criterion Cast has posted the announcement for October and the info about the New Korean Cinema slate mentions that more titles are going to be announced.yoloswegmaster wrote: ↑Thu Sep 24, 2020 3:12 pmGlad to see Korean films being added, though it is strange that Oldboy is missing while the other 2 films in the Vengeance Trilogy is being added.

Alright, that's great to hear. Am I correct in assuming that they are going to add the other titles next month?

Re: The Criterion Channel -- Film and Content Discussion
That was what happened with the Paul Schrader set, at least one of the titles was added either at the end of the month it went up or at the start of the next month. Although in that case the additional title was announced alongside the other titles.

And some more titles are going to get added to it by the end of October, fingers crossed. It's insane how messed up Korean film rights are at the moment.
