You are partially correct. It was ORION Classics, which is now part of MGM.

Re: Quarantined Monthly Guessing Thread
It's actually with Sony Pictures Classics now. Sony Pictures Classics was started by the same people who ran Orion Classics and I assume Almodóvar chose to let them have the film after MGM's rights expired. In fact SPC currently has all of his films.

Criterion's Twitter now possibly hinting at Lolita and Z.

As mentioned in the The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie thread, Unobstructed View has leaked a Three Films by Luis Buñuel set containing The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie, The Phantom of Liberty, and That Obscure Object of Desire

If Unobstructed View becomes the replacement for phantom pages, that would be a-ok.

Have we had a megabox set and a regular box set announced in the same month, or does that but the kibosh on the WKW box this month?

Re: Quarantined Monthly Guessing Thread
THE ASCENT by Larisa Shepitko. 2 Disc DVD SPECIAL EDITION FEATURES. New 4K digital restoration, with uncompressed monaural soundtrack so perhaps they meant a BD/DVD edition?
EDIT: They corrected it and stated Blu-ray. EDIT AGAIN: Announcements deleted.

Re: Quarantined Monthly Guessing Thread
I assumed not having a separate announcement earlier in the week did that.senseabove wrote: ↑Thu Oct 15, 2020 1:04 pmHave we had a megabox set and a regular box set announced in the same month, or does that but the kibosh on the WKW box this month?

Re: Quarantined Monthly Guessing Thread
I wouldn't be surprised if all the box sets were meant to be 2020 releases, but the pandemic threw off their timing, what with clearing out their offices and setting up people to work from home.

I thought we had had a megabox announcement and regular announcements via separate emails on the same day, but I'm probably misremembering that.

So it's those two, Rolling Thunder Revue, and Bing Liu's Minding the Gap.
Is The Ascent the first Eclipse upgrade (not counting I Was Born, But... and the Bergman and Varda boxes)?

That is correct! I recently went through every individual title in the entire Eclipse line to see where/what Blurays were available elsewhere, and THE ASCENT is the very FIRST standalone Criterion upgrade of an Eclipse title.agnamaracs wrote: ↑Thu Oct 15, 2020 1:25 pmSo it's those two, Rolling Thunder Revue, and Bing Liu's Minding the Gap.

Is Minding the Gap the first Hulu film to get a Criterion release? I'm not sure if Hulu have anything else that would be considered Criterion worthy, or do they?

It is not licensed by Hulu, but through Kartemquin. Does not reflect anything about what might be licensed from Hulu.

I've figured the Wong Kar-wai set will come out in February to coincide with the flash sale.

Have we had two documentaries in a month before? In a way, these announcements feel like it's an outlier month.

Re: Quarantined Monthly Guessing Thread
Not only are there two documentaries, but they are the only new titles. The other four are upgrades. Interesting month. But by no means disappointing, IMO.Bressonaire wrote: ↑Thu Oct 15, 2020 2:18 pmHave we had two documentaries in a month before? In a way, these announcements feel like it's an outlier month.

...and we're back! I will be stepping in for Minkin this month to judge the Speculation Rodeo, so I will be abstaining from guessing. So now's the time to quote my regular guesses and reap the rewards!

I was just about to ask whether the non-vote-month was my chance to predict TAL being skipped and soundchaser would take it again, or whether it was pushed to this month. I don't wanna mess with the juju
