Listening to that interview now, and Feltenstein says they’re currently working on “two of [Raoul Walsh’s] best films.” One of them would figure to be They Died with Their Boots On. I’m hoping the second film is The Man I Love, but there’s certainly a few others it could be.

Are we sure one of them isn't just the recently announced They Drive By Night?

A huge amount of physical media love he has been given in the last few years, though the earlier Fox titles remain out of reach.

The first preview of the 2024 Il Cinema Ritrovata Film Festival:
https://festival.ilcinemaritrovato.it/e ... il-cr2024/

A couple interesting things here:
- The Pietro Germi section mentions Divorced Italian Style and Seduced and Abandoned. Both films are still available from Criterion and on the Criterion Channel, though only on DVD.
- The Anatole Litvak section mentions his work in France, which would include Mayerling. So far, it's only been released in the Essential Art House series and on a Spanish DVD. This would be a really interesting movie to rerelease because it used to be considered one of the great, foreign, art-house classics many decades ago.
- Though it doesn't mention the three movies in Eclipse Series 46: Ingrid Bergman's Swedish Years by name, the section about Gustaf Molander does reference his collaborations with her.

From Guillermo del Toro
on Twitter
:
4 new 4K transfers coming up: CRIMSON PEAK, then CRONOS, BLADE II and finally MIMIC all in the next year or so. I am done with the color timing of 3 out of the 4.
This suggests a Cronos UHD upgrade within the next year. (Crimson Peak is already announced for May from Arrow, Kino has announced they will be releasing Mimic, and Warner is likely to do Blade II themselves.)

Great news! I could also see Arrow doing Blade II, as Arrow just hinted at a new deal and it’s almost certainly Warner due to Cliff’s relationship with them.

Shout is also a possibility. Someone on the other forum mentioned that their new announcements (Robocop 2 & 2014 remake, Species 2, etc.) are still Cliff’s acquisitions. Knowing that Arrow’s Crimson Peak arrives very soon, the others might not take too long either.

They’re up:

Perfect Days 4K
Risky Business 4K
Black God, White Devil
Le Samourai 4K
Farewell, My Concubine 4K
Pat Garrett and Billy The Kid 4K

I already have the Mawu Blu-ray of the Rocha film and have preordered Pathe’s standard UHD of Le Samourai. If I ever feel compelled to blind buy Farewell, My Concubine, there’s always Carlotta’s 4K. Pat Garrett is a possibility at some point if the funds allow it. I probably don’t need to own Risky Business or Perfect Days on disc.

What a month - and I don't even like those first two movies at all!

Pat Garrett & Farewell My Concubine, what a month! Also: Black God White Devil is the only July that does not get a 4K. Like rrenault, I already pre-ordered Le Samourai from Pathe so I'll be skipping that one.

A good mix of different kinds of films (some surprises and some we’ve been waiting for) and even decent supplements! Is Criterion good again??

I see Farewell My Concubine is the first license from Film Movement. Is this likely a one off?

Is it licensed from Film Movement? I know they have the theatrical rights, but the digital/streaming rights are with Criterion and I just figured it was a split rights thing where Criterion picked up all the home video rights.

Chris will have to clarify the licensing as he has it listed as Film Movement

edit: The trailer on the page starts with he Film Movement ID

Should have done this earlier, but I just checked on the Criterion Channel and it opens with the Criterion logo followed by the Film Movement logo. So, yes it is licensed from Film Movement. I wonder why Film Movement opted not to release it themselves.

especially now that Film Movement is partnered with Vinegar Syndrome...so it's not like they couldn't have done a 4K release

My guess is that Criterion made an offer they cannot reject.

And as usual, Criterion may have sat on the film for a while just like I am Cuba. They probably negotiated the rights long before the OCN / Vinegar Syndrome deal was made.
