For anyone that has access to the sell sheet, who is credited as the licensor for The Piano?

Thanks Ribs. Guess that rules out any more Lionsgate or possible Miramax titles.

Re: Criterion Discussion and Random Speculation Volume 7
I can't see them being big sellers but since they're releasing them on the format (after saying they'll be more selective) I'd have to assume other Netflix titles have sold well. Go figure.

I think the point is that they've never been released on DVD by anyone before, unlike the other titles

Re: Criterion Discussion and Random Speculation Volume 7
Since Criterion has released the Netflix titles on DVD in the UK, with everything else being Blu-ray only, it may be a requirement from Netflix.

Re: Criterion Discussion and Random Speculation Volume 7
Didn’t they say recently that films yet to receive a release on the format would still get a DVD?

Re: Criterion Discussion and Random Speculation Volume 7
I emailed Criterion asking them if they were going to release a Dogme series based on the numbering of Festen as Dogme #1 and they confirmed that there were no plans to release a series. However, they did say that it is possible that they would release another Dogme film in the future.

Re: Criterion Discussion and Random Speculation Volume 7
The "Dogme 1" numbering for Festen isn't something Criterion did, it's part of the movie's actual title. The Idiots was Dogme 2, Mifune was 3, The King Is Alive was 4, and so on. After a few years you could get a Dogme certificate just by filling out a form on the website, so by the time they finally wound it down there were 201 Dogme films, some of them submitted on behalf of filmmakers who would be surprised to learn they'd made one (#180-182 are all Rushmore).yoloswegmaster wrote: ↑Mon Oct 18, 2021 4:07 pmI emailed Criterion asking them if they were going to release a Dogme series based on the numbering of Festen as Dogme #1 and they confirmed that there were no plans to release a series. There's some very funny stuff in that list. Can't wait for the Criterion boxset of dogme films including three copies of Rushmore, and whatever did that person who appear to have no film at all but is just rambling on about their political party being the true follow-up of marxism, and that they're writing some novel about it, and that dogme is full of shit.

Re: Criterion Discussion and Random Speculation Volume 7
According to this tweet, the Janus Films logo appears at the start of The Return of Godzilla.
Edited to add, according to a post at the Toho Kingdom forum, Janus sent a notice out on Friday that, along with The Return of Godzilla, they also have Godzilla vs. Biollante.
Edited again to add: Here is the status of the Heisei era films:
• The Return of Godzilla (1984) [with Janus]
• Godzilla vs. Biollante (1989) [with Janus]
• Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah (1991) [Sony's rights expired in 2019]
• Godzilla vs. Mothra (1992) [Sony's rights expired in 2019]
• Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II (1993) [Sony's rights expire in 2023]
• Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla (1994) [Sony's rights expire in 2023]
• Godzilla vs. Destoroyah (1995) [Sony's rights expire in 2023]
So any Heisei era set isn't likely until 2024 at the earliest. Hopefully by then Toho will let Criterion have access to better transfers.

Has there been any evidence that CC has The Seventh Victim or is it just speculation as folks continue to guess this title?

Re: Criterion Discussion and Random Speculation Volume 7
These are interesting movies by my estimation. Neat special effects and monsters. Not exactly Citizen Kane though. What will also be interesting is if Toho allows Criterion to release the absolutely fascinating bastardized American version of Return called Godzilla 1985 which Roger Corman (And Dr. Pepper!) morphed into something entirely unique.dwk wrote: ↑Sat Nov 13, 2021 7:09 pmAccording to this tweet, the Janus Films logo appears at the start of The Return of Godzilla.
