Re: Grasshopper Film
Have Nocturama on pre-order, replacing my French DVD of the film. Really wish Grasshopper would get around to releasing Lav Diaz's From What Is Before on Blu Ray.

Got my copy of Nocturama in the mail today - a nice surprise since the order page stated it would ship on the release date.

Any information on Last Men in Aleppo? A Blu-ray was scheduled to be released but it seems the film is DVD-only now...

Re: Grasshopper Film
Yes, we had originally planned on a blu-ray for LAST MEN IN ALEPPO. But based on early demand, decided to only release the film on DVD.

Thanks for the reply.
In other news, Grasshopper has acquired Asako I and II (one film, not two) for a 2019 release. Its reception seems lukewarm but the plot is interesting... hopefully a Blu-ray/DVD release makes it somewhere down the pipeline.

That's good news about Asako I & II, although I have to say I found it to be a pretty substantial step down from the utterly sublime Happy Hour. Speaking of which, I'd love to see Grasshopper release that one on blu-ray although maybe KimStim controls those rights (and have opted for DVD-only).

Regretfully it deserved it reception at Cannes. The film started out so promisingly but in the last act the film pretty much drops the ball.Boosmahn wrote: ↑Thu Aug 02, 2018 12:20 amThanks for the reply.

Using letters Anna Magdalena Bach wrote to her husband, seminal composer Johann Sebastian, filmmakers Jean-Marie Straub and Danièle Huillet created one of the most precise, rewarding biopics ever put to screen. Chronicle of Anna Magdalena Bach‘s intense emotional pull can be understood by its status as a musical film in the most thorough sense: its performances – staged as extended sequences set within the very spaces once occupied by Bach himself, with trained performers both donning and playing items accurate to the period – are immense, bringing us closer to the sound than was ever thought possible. Immaculately restored on the occasion of its 50th anniversary, Chronicle of Anna Magdalena Bach invites viewers to experience a bygone age.

And two Claire Denis films I've never heard of(including special features)! Towards Mathilde (2005) and The Breidjing Camp (2015)
Jean-Marie Straub's top 10 films of the last 10 years is pretty funny.

Maybe it's just me, but Amazon Pay didn't work on the site so I just used a credit card.

Thanks for your order!! TOWARDS MATHILDE in particular is an amazing Denis film -- one that echoes throughout her other, narrative works.
Let us know if anyone else is having issues with Amazon Pay. Thanks.

Re: Grasshopper Film
New release Araby is a brilliant film, highly recommended. Vers Mathilde is an interesting dance documentary, but it’s a footnote for Denis (but I’m delighted it’s been released!)

I also want to give my strongest recommendation to Mathilde. It’s as good as her best narrative films. Anyone dismissing it unseen as a minor or supplemental work because it’s ostensibly a documentary does a disservice to Denis and to themselves.GrasshopperFilm wrote: ↑Sat Nov 24, 2018 1:01 amThanks for your order!! Re: Grasshopper Film
I read it as: don't tell yourself "it's just a documentary, I won't bother." I don't think he was directly responding to your dismissal.

Re: Grasshopper Film
Okay, fair enough. I just saw it was the next post after mine but didn't notice that it was posted a lot later. I thought he was implying that I was criticizing the film (and the criticism couldn't have been much milder) without having seen it. Sorry Matt!

Sorry, zedz! I was responding on Tapatalk, which has different pagination from the browser version of the forum, so I didn't even see your post right above mine until just now. swo17's interpretation (don't tell yourself "it's just a documentary, I won't bother") is what I meant.

Re: Grasshopper Film
Thanks for the BISBEE mention!!
We also just released Affonso Uchôa and João Dumans' ARABY on DVD (which includes a second feature, their first collaboration, THE HIDDEN TIGER).
And our second Straub-Huillet release, CHRONICLE OF ANNA MAGDALENA BACH, comes out on blu-ray and DVD on February 5.
Lastly, for any Bertrand Bonello admirers out there, our album, MUSIC FROM THE FILMS OF BERTRAND BONELLO, is also available. It's a limited edition (500 only) and pressed on translucent orange vinyl.
Thanks again!

Re: Grasshopper Film
Not sure where else to post this but it's owned by Grasshopper. There is a doc on Lucretia Martel and Zama that can be rented/purchased on prime https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MH6BWW2/re ... xCbSJE4YDT
Zama was my favorite film of 2018 by a large margin and I was really disappointed that it got such barebones release so hopefully this will be enlightening (planning to watch it after work). An illustration of filmmaking's many stages and complex artistic collaboration with its subject, Manuel Abramovich's new film concerns Lucrecia Martel during the making of her fourth feature, "Zama". "Light Years" far surpasses the familiar form of behind-the-scenes features, proving as much an intimate portrait of the working artist as it does an emulation of Martel's tendencies.
