Hello,

I got the Three-Blu-Ray Special feature edition and all is fine and well until I get to the 3rd disc, it only shows me an English Audio track and no option for Subtitles.

Has anyone got this same behavior? Any idea on how to "fix" it?

Thanks
Roberto

The Shogun Assassin cut is only dubbed in English.

Also, it's just recycled footage from the first (two?) films, so it's not as though you're missing anything

It may be technically unnecessary but the presence of Shogun Assassin in the set is important as a historical curio. Here in the UK it was one of the few Japanese films to make its way to VHS in the 1980s (by Vipco) and in its Shogun Assassin dubbed cut released in the pre-Video Recording Act days came perilously close to ending up on the UK's 'video nasty' list for how the version cut the dialogue to a minimum to revel in all of the violence. And it has an iconically cheesy electronically scored trailer from that period.

Plus, you know, its famous for that scene of the Bride showing the Shogun Assassin edit of the series to her daughter as an assassin's equivalent of a bedtime story at the end of Kill Bill Vol.2!

I might even prefer the condensed, hallucinatory Shogun Assassin to the original films! Not least because of...

I was never keen on how murky the Criterion looks, nor the colour. Has anyone got any suggestions for how I can tweak my TV settings so it looks more like the German master - specifically colour.

I'm not sure what you're looking at here. The German masters are, based on caps-a-holic, not particularly nice looking, including the colors which are often duller and pinkish like older video masters tend to be. They also have clipped highlights, are quite artificially sharpened, and plainly look like very old masters.

If you want to match this with TV settings, I suppose you could pretty much go the opposite way of having it properly setup, ie pushing up the sharpening option, screwing with the white balance, and most likely lower the saturation while pushing up the contrast setting.
