This BRD does indeed look wonderful -- but my Samsung had a number of burps (skips?) -- even including some during the intermission music.

Indeed it does, but had no problems on my old Samsung BD-P1500 or the BD-C6900.

It's at the National Film Center, around the corner from my workplace

Strange -- I have the BD-P1600 -- which did seem to have intermittent (little) glitches.

Does any one prefer the Japanese: LPCM Mono vs. Japanese: LPCM 2.0 with a strong opinion either way? While I know the 1.0 track is original, are there any strong arguments against the 2.0 besides originalism? Does the 2.0 fill the room and offer more depth?

The surround track is fuller, there are some enhanced sound effects, like the arrows and such that were muffled or barely existant in the original mono track. The newer surround track doesn't sound as artificial or out of place as other 'remix' tracks, the enhancements are good.

Out of curiosity, which of the 4 trailers on the reissue DVD is the "original US theatrical trailer" included on the original DVD release?

By the way, here's the restoration demonstration from the original DVD. I ripped it a few days ago and forgot to tell people.

2 Seven Samurai

The aforementioned English dubbed version has been uploaded to the Internet Archive.
The long buried English dub of Seven Samurai, thought to be made for Walter Reade-Sterling's 1963 TV package "Cinema 70". Based on Akira Kurosawa's export cut made in 1954, originally shown with subtitles at the Venice Film Festival that year. Dubbing appears to be based on the subtitles from Columbia Pictures' 1956 subtitled U.S. theatrical release.
It appears to be taken from a 1988 Australian VHS release.
