Meaning it doesn’t look like the DVD Beaver screen caps, then? I’d be happy if that were true.
I thought their caps for both Céline and Julie & the Agnès Varda set looked awfully contrasty, with off colour timing (on my admittedly non-calibrated laptop)...

Looks better (a lot) on our TV than the Beaver screen shots do on my monitor. Offhand, I have no problem with the color overall. Definitely very grainy (if you sit close to the screen). ;-) I think the French DVD set still beats this for extras (if only this set had been subbed).

That’s the perennial problem with French releases, hey? Thanks Michael.
After watching Paris Belongs To Us recently, I think I’m slowly warming to Rivette, but I’ve always liked C&J, it’ll be good to finally see it again.

With Rivette, go with the flow. Do not search for "meaning". If one can manage this, one will (probably) enjoy most of his films. ;-)

I’m entirely fine with not searching for “meaning”, for me it’s the endurance. I don’t think it’s anything to do with pace, either - I could happily watch a five hour Hou Hsiao-Hsien film; his films, for me, just seem to really drag, regardless of length. Not sure I’m ready to make another attempt at Out 1 quite yet, though.

Honestly, just fast-forward though that 45-minute scene in the first episode of Out 1. It really picks up once that's survived.

One less Criterion to import, I guess, and good to see the extras have been given a bit of an uplift. A decent encode please!

Yep, cat's out the bag. Wish more American labels realized they could employ the commentary services of Martin-- I think he's far better suited to this format than the video essays he's been making with his partner, and considering how few people are capable of making good commentaries, that's no small feat

Cool, coulda guessed this actually as they previously released it on DVD. Was actually discussing this the other day and wondering if BFI had let it go and Arrow Academy might try and get it from MK2.

One more Criterion to pawn off. I don't mind, really, but I wish BFI had been more punctual!
