R2 France (M6 2-disc edition)
French version (disc 1) vs English version (disc 2) - plus a sample from the old TF1 edition.
The two versions were shot separately, which is why the screencaps don't match exactly. No subs on French version. Optional French subs on English version.

I don't suppose this is the proper thread to post these in, but on the other hand...
Commingled Containers: Fuzzy Lights Here's a collection of film-caps emphasizing those moments when nobody's on screen and what we're left with is an array of out-of-focus lights...
A, B, Cinema This time I've gathered pics of handwritten words...

Zanik Samoty Berhof Svoboda, 1984
Bonton, Czech subtitles on everything
At times a little dark, but I didn't find it problematic, it adds to the atmosphere. Otherwise I don't recall the print having too much damage, at times there are specks.
Den sedmý, osma noc Schorm, 1969/90
Bonton, Czech subtitles on everything
This has some damage, I guess it's about the same as most Czech films of the time. Certainly better than End of a Priest.
Indianske Leto Gedeon, 1995
Bonton, English subtitles on main feature
Great quality, one big speck, otherwise no problems. All of Gedeon's shorts are on the DVD, without subs though. Haven't seen them yet. I will add screenshots of them later, as well as of Schorm's shorts.
Stin kapradiny Vlacil, 1984
Bonton, Czech subs on everything
At zije republika Kachyna, 1965
Bonton, Czech subs on everything
One of the few widescreen films from the country. There surely was a lot of money in this, the army even worked together with the director. The film was still banned...or so it seems...
Stiny horkeho leta (Vlacil, 1977)
Bonton, Czech subs on everything
At about the 50min mark there are a lot of specs, otherwise very good. Night and inside scenes are pretty dark, but that only adds to the sense of bewilderment. Also it was filmed without special sources of light inside it seems, so it's not surprising that the film is dark.

Giorgino (Laurent Boutonnat, 1994). R2, France, Pathé (2-disc).
Aspect ratio c. 2.35:1 (16:9 encoded). English audio (5.1 & DTS) plus a 5.1 French dub. Optional French subtitles. No subs on bonus features. 48 page colour booklet in French (extremely beautiful!).
The filmprint is restored, but the digital transfer has some compression artefacts (probably not visible in the captures). The sound-quality is amazing! The movie is odd but with beautiful set designs. In some scenes it has an artificial look which reminds me of Kwaidan (last capture, for instance).
Molière (Ariane Mnouchkine, 1978). R2, Bel Air (2-disc).
Aspect ratio 1.66:1 (16:9 encoded, pillarboxed). French audio. Optional subs in English and some other languages. Bonus features are also subtitled (the Commentary track is unsubbed). 16 page booklet in French.
Nice clean filmprint. The transfer is a bit dark I think, but it's not problematic when viewed on a real tv.

Network R2 UK - Jean-Claude Lauzon's 'Léolo'
An awful release of Lauzon's magnificent 'Léolo' by Network dvd. I can't find anything positive to say about this release other than it allowed me to see the film.
N.B. Not sure why the last 3 images have chaned in size, they were captured and uploaded at the same time as the others, but, you get the idea.

REEL R4 Australia - Jerzy Skolimowski's "Moonlighting"
The DVD is advertised as being 4:3 1.33:1 both on every website, and on the cover, but it is infact in 16:9, and it looks pretty darn good.
Nice detail, and very little grain. Only extras are English Subtitles. But for the price it's selling for, I reckon it's a great buy.
I'm not sure about the quality of the Region 1 DVD.

Komedie om Geld (Max Ophüls 1936) Filmmuseum - Nederlandse filmklassiekers
Not a very convincing transfer (the bottom line indicates that this might have a vhs source), but anyway the whole thing came to a risible 13.89 euro shipping included with azur.be. This is obviously not a release from the Dutch Film Institute like I first thought. No subs.

Panique (Julien Duvivier 1946) L.C.J Editions
A good but not outstanding transfer of a major Duvivier. No subs. Cheap though.

Re: Screen Captures
NICE! I love when they transfer the full frame including the full corners of the neg... it's like you're holding the film up to the light and looking at the actual celluloid strip.

Re: Screen Captures
Rikollinen nainen aka A Woman of Crime (Teuvo Tulio, Finland, 1952). From Teuvo Tulio box, Vol. 2, (Region 2).
English subs, also on special features. Restored print, looking pretty good. Often quite soft but still good. Occasional scratches and some dirt, though.
The last capture ('inverted' or 'negative effect') is not very useful to determine the picture quality but is added to show an example of Tulio 'pulling out all stops'. His films are often deliberately exaggerated visually (and emotionally for that matter).
