I prefer Criterion to Anchor Bay for the most part. I am well aware of the Divimax transfer by Anchor Bay, but it doesn't have the Gilliam commentary track, so that cancels it out for me.Kirkinson wrote:And a re-do of Time Bandits is even less likely than Brazil now that Anchor Bay re-did theirs (and the transfer is excellent).

they should have something set up where we can send them just the disc of our box set and get just the disc of the new one in return. I'd even pay $10-15 for this.
Now I don't really want to post again .... that'll make some happy, won't it. If only I'd hit 666 a week and a day ago.
I know. And I like it that way. Goes nicely with my "location."By the way Denti, you have exactly 666 posts. Very creepy.

That's a very good idea Denti. Someone should email CC folks. By the way Denti, you have exactly 666 posts. Jun Dai, I guess you were proven wrong only a year after the fact :O. It seems kind of morbid that they are re-releasing this, but I guess an anamorphic transfer won't hurt.
Did you borrow your "location" line from the band Sigh?denti alligator wrote:I know. And I like it that way. Goes nicely with my "location."

The Invunche hit the creepy number only a few hours after that day had ended.SncDthMnky wrote: great postcount by the way, invunche. would've been a tad bit spooky to hit it yesterday.

I don't get it. Aren't the "new" details the same as the old details? Isn't this just a repackaging and a simultaneous individual release of disc one?kinjitsu wrote:New details are up at Criterion

As far as I can tell, they're not "updated" either. "New, pristine widescreen transfer of Terry Gilliam's 142-minute final cut" is the way they described the old transfer. It will say something about "high-definition" or "anamporphic" when they update. They still have the old box art up too.kinjitsu wrote:Updated details are up at Criterion

Exactly. And has there actually been any indication that there will be a new transfer? I'm not trying to shore up votes for the Richard Cranium award here, I'm just trying to clarify exactly what this new release is.Jeff wrote:As far as I can tell, they're not "updated" either.kinjitsu wrote:Updated details are up at Criterion

As far as a new transfer goes, here's the re-release description from Image:
Pitting the imagination of common man Sam Lowry against the oppressive storm troopers of the Ministry of Information, this bitter parable for the Information Age has come to be regarded as an anti-totalitarian cautionary tale equal to the works of George orwell, Aldous Huxley, and Kurt Vonnegut. Gathering footage from both the European and American versions of his celebrated masterpiece, Terry Gilliam has assembled the ultimate 142-minute director's cut of Brazil - now in a gorgeously remastered new transfer.
(Emphasis added)
Compare to the original release description from Criterionco.com:
Pitting the imagination of a common man against the oppressive storm troopers of the Ministry of Information, this bitter parable for the Information Age is more relevant than ever. Gathering footage from both the European and American versions, Terry Gilliam has assembled the ultimate 142-minute director's cut of his most celebrated film, then annotated it with a shot-by-shot commentary on an alternate audio channel.
Yes, I think it's safe to assume the movie has been freshly restored.
