Film Twitter has just found an anti-Muslim tweet from the screenwriter of Green Book from a few years ago. This is going to be a complete mess.
I'll raise you with the revelation that Farrelly used to really like to flash a certain part of his anatomy to people.

Damn. The two combined have to sink the film's chances, surely?

For the same reason there can't be a host this year, it's only a matter of time before there can't be an awards ceremony at all

If it means something as banal as Green Book not being awarded an honor for being the best movie of the year, good

If the backlash against this and Bohemian Rhapsody take hold it might shake up the nominations at least.

But on the downside, that would mean that I saw Green Book for no reason.

Sucker, that's why I always wait unless I want to see it anyways. And I do not want to see it anyways

...but it will still be nominated for Best Picture, too many ballots already submitted this week

The vast preponderence of ballots are sent in the last days of the voting period; I’d guess maybe only 10% have been recieved at this point two days into the period. I don’t think this confluence of nonsense is quite enough to prevent the film from being nominated regardless and its path to actual Best Picture victory has always seemed narrow at best, but I don’t imagine that this will suddenly silence the film’s most impassioned fans.

Disappointed that rumors about the *actual* big shoe we’ve all been expecting to drop this awards season for a recent frontrunner finally appearing as ballots become available don’t seem to be panning out.

Hah, no surprise. Almost two decades ago on I think Letterman or Conan, someone who worked with him and his brother (Greg Kinnear?) mentioned a prank he pulled on Cher where he made it sound like he had a weird tumor that was bothering him. Out of genuine concern, Cher asked to look at it, and of course what he did was rearrange his privates so that his balls were actually the "growth."

Lady Gaga nominated for Best Actress, probably trails behind Olivia Colman in the reckoning, and then suddenly realises R Kelly is a bad, bad man (not that the rumours swirled for more than a decade before she worked with him obviously).

She's not nominated for Best Actress yet, and I'm not sure the two have much to do with one another since that R. Kelly documentary just aired the other night which is the likelier explanation for the timing

It's exactly this. Quite a few people worked with Kelly, including Beyonce when Destiny's Child was still a thing. If Beyonce isn't going to suffer any ill effects I doubt Gaga will either.

People have been calling Gaga out on Twitter for defending R Kelly in the past as well as for working with him. It was a bit of a thing earlier today and then she made the statement, so I think the motivation was to try and nip the backlash in the bud. I also think some of the reason she was getting heat was to derail her Oscar campaign, especially considering how the Green Book revelation come to light (Someone on an Oscar forum saw he followed Trump and a lot of right wing commentators then searched his history)

Under the Silver Lake will do about as well at next year's Oscars as Southland Tales did the year it came out
I don't care what else gets released in 2019; "Turning Teeth" deserves the Best Original Song Oscar.

There's sometimes a passion pick and I think this year it will be First Reformed, ala Tree of Life, Amour, and Phantom Thread. Along those lines I wouldn't blink if Schrader got nommed for Best Director. I also wouldn't be surprised if First Man overperformed compared to precursors
