Cahiers has a long history of listing Twin Peaks, this isn't surprising in the leastBig Ben wrote:The amount of animosity towards Twin Peaks being on top ten lists on Twitter was...well...worse than it normally is. It's shown up on multiple lists and people have shown no sign of not wanting the people who listed it to not die covered with pus filled boils all over.

Were it not for Varda’s doc, Twin Peaks: The Return would top my film list too, but I just don’t believe in mixing the two. That said, thrilled to see it getting recognized at the top of such a big platform. It deserves it. I mean, fuck, the 8th episode deserves it on its own

Y'all are starting to make me wish my lazy ass bit the bullet and caught up on Twin Peaks years ago. It's quite interesting to see it there (Once you remove the horrific comments claiming "It's a TV show not film!") and it's nice to see Cashiers notice it.
An interesting list for sure.

Tony award-winning stage director. Kind of odd they couldn't find a film director, but could be an early bad omen for Gerwig-- Directors' branch votes for the Oscar noms

Highly disappointing that you haven't heard of the master director behind Circumcise Me.mfunk9786 wrote:Um....... who the hell is Sam Gold?

I decided to catch up on Twin Peaks last year in time for the return. I still haven't made it yet unfortunately and all of this talk about the quality of the third season has me excited, but holy hell this second season is a slog to get through.Big Ben wrote:Y'all are starting to make me wish my lazy ass bit the bullet and caught up on Twin Peaks years ago. Re: Awards Season 2017
Absolutely. After the first few episodes, Lynch had pretty much checked out. I always got the impression that he was "re-engaged" when the network forced the revelation of Laura's killer and when they ended the season/attempted to save the show, but beyond that, the show was unmoored creatively.Cameron Swift wrote:I decided to catch up on Twin Peaks last year in time for the return. capotte, pour la felation, the only part of I could have watched on line... Everything sounds better in French.
Anyway, by twitter, I've seen that the director of the Square is very cute and his hair is gorgeous.
Stephan Zweig's popularity. The winner of the Peoples Choice Award is FAREWELL TO EUROPE

Re: Awards Season 2017
Clearly the early screening for All the Money in the World to the HFPA paid off (and vindicates Scott's decision), to the point that Call Me By Your Name didn't get a Best Director nomination, which hurts its momentum.

Re: Awards Season 2017
Missing director doesn’t help, but Stuhlbarg being left off is probably the more important signifier of waning momentum seeing as plenty still claim he could win. The song didn’t make the cut either, which is the other non-script category it at least some has some chance to win according to most prognosticators.

Probably a record for an actor (Christopher Plummer) to be nominated a mere four weeks after being announced for the role!

Interesting, perhaps, is that there isn't a single Golden Globe nomination for an Amazon Studios film.Ribs wrote:The miss for the Big Sick in all categories is heartbreaking.
I'm curious now if the lack of Golden Globe nominations for Amazon will in any way reflect the studio's presence at the Oscars. I think The Big Sick still has a chance to receive an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay, which I understand is a particularly lauded aspect of that film (I haven't seen it yet). It's hard to tell at this point how other Amazon films will fare, except the possibility of Wonderstruck and Wonder Wheel receiving a nomination for Best Cinematography (but the latter has been so thoroughly savaged it's possible it'll be shut out of any potential category, no matter how great it looks).

Re: Awards Season 2017
Wonderstruck's main horse is the score (for good reason), but Carter Burwell was inexplicably nominated for 3 Billboards, so who knows? The score category is oftentimes 3 films everyone knows will be nominated and two films that no one has even realized had music in them (see: Mr. Turner, Passengers both being nominated recently) I don't think this is some crazy anti-Amazon conspiracy, just that all of its non-Big Sick awards horses just kind of dissipated without anyone caring too much. I'd be absolutely shocked if Hunter doesn't make the cut for the Oscars, either. While I think Wonder Wheel still could be nominated for Cinematography it's looking less likely by the day.

Re: Awards Season 2017
Ribs, I certainly don't think (and I didn't mean to imply) that there is a "conspiracy" against Amazon Studios. I've merely found it interesting to observe their big awards hopefuls dissipate (as you put it), especially after having followed the progress of some of these films since they were announced.I don't think this is some crazy anti-Amazon conspiracy, just that all of its non-Big Sick awards horses just kind of dissipated without anyone caring too much.

Re: Awards Season 2017
I've not met anyone in real life who has seen the big sick, I know it was the annual summer-Indy-wunderkind (there can be only one), but even with winning that unofficial prize I still haven't heard anyone talking about it nor mentioning it.
