That's where I'm looking, because everything generally turns up there eventually. YesAsia seems to be a little chaotic in terms of preorder listings, and very often new releases just appear as in stock with no warning. I'm checking in fairly regularly for this, so I'll post here when it shows up.warren oates wrote:Do people expect this new set to be available via YesAsia.com? I feel like that's where I got The River on BD before, but I checked the other day and see no preorder listing.

I suspect it will be up eventually. The Hou set didn't appear until about a week after its supposed release date.

Re: Tsai Ming-liang
Dark Circle is actually still the title in Chinese. Well, the Chinese equivalent of "dark circle" anyway. You know what I mean. The Apichatpong film was also shortened to just Intimacy before came up with the final title. In fact that whole series seems to have been slightly cursed title-wise, with Half Moon at one point called The Last Symphony of the Kurds and Opera Jawa passing through Sinta Obong and Requiem from Java (whew!).zedz wrote:(Apropos of nothing, a google search on that subject revealed that the original titles of I Don't Want to Sleep Alone and Syndromes and a Century were Dark Circle and Intimacy and Turbulence respectively)
The issue with The Hole might not be the series aspect per se, but rather that it was Tsai's first international co-production and the CMPC presumably doesn't own it outright.

That is what I meant. A mistake that was probably also wishful thinking because The River is my favorite of his early works.swo17 wrote:He must have meant Vive l'amour.

Re: Tsai Ming-liang
Preorders for individual Japanese Blu-ray releases of Rebels of the Neon God, Vive L'amour, and The River have appeared at YesAsia, each with an April 3rd release date. It's highly doubtful of course that these will include English subs. No sign yet as far as I can tell of the likely cheaper and English-subbed Taiwanese box, however. Anyone have any news on that? Has a date been set?

Big World Pictures will be giving Rebels of the Neon Gods a US theatrical run and say that the odds are good for a Blu-Ray later in the year.

Re: Tsai Ming-liang
Thanks for the link! Looks like with shipping (assuming it's consistent with past orders) it should come out to approx. $90 USD shipped. Not too bad for 3 films, except that I bought Vive l'amour once already.
Edit: Shipping was more reasonable than expected, the grand total was about $78 shipped to the U.S.

Huh. Mine was $86 shipped to the US, and I picked the cheaper shipping option.

Just got mine. The packaging is nice, with a gorgeous booklet that has these "windows" between the pages.
Vive L'Amour appears to be a repackaging of the old Blu, which means if you want the DVD-only interview you'll have to hold on to your old set. Rebels and River each have a brief (6-7 minute) interview, with optional English subs. I'm not an A/V expert, but to me the transfers look stunning.

No No Sleep, the latest installment in the "Walker" cycle, is up on Youtube. (Like the original Hong Kong short, this was co-sponsored by Youku as part of the "Beautiful" series, but unlike all the others it isn't up on Youku itself—for reasons that eventually become obvious...)

So it is—but the "problematic" elements are censored, so the Youtube version is the way to go.

Wow. That had perhaps the most beautiful train shot I've seen since Goodbye, South, Goodbye, or at least Cafe Lumiere.

Re: Tsai Ming-liang
I agree! I thought at one point during that shot that the camera was impossibly fixed to the outside of the train somehow to be able to stay in perfect matched motion but then the train moves away, down, twists underneath, eventually disappearing altogether and we find ourselves just sat looking out of the window of an entirely different train! So close and yet existing in an entirely different world.

Re: Tsai Ming-liang
Can anyone explain how to complete an order from JSDVD? My order of the Tsai Ming-Liang boxset keeps being rejected at the payment stage because "Receiever tel length reach minimun limit". I've tried every way of presenting the number that I can think of but nothing works.
Any advice would be much appreciated. I emailed JSDVD but they have not answered.
