Before I spend too much (again), can someone at Eureka/MOC say whether Assassination, Tartuffe, and Humanity and Paper Balloons are getting re-printed or not? I know that the two former titles were mentioned as being in store for a re-print (mentioned back in March), but Nick's last post doesn't make it sound too promising for Assassination.

Just want to know - so I don't have to scramble to get these things (I also fear what other titles might have not been renewed).

I've been told that Tartuffe is absolutely getting re-pressed, it's just part of the last batch (including Spione as well). Can't speak for the other titles you asked about.

I know Assassination is definitely getting repressed as well, I emailed Eureka about it recently and they confirmed it will be available shortly. I'm fairly sure the same is true of Humanity, but I didn't ask them about that one.

Indeed, I got stung with Face of Another - picked it up for £20 as thought it was out of print and then copies appear for £7.99 on the Eureka sales page. Though also managed to get hold of a copy of Pitfall. It would be nice to hear if any are getting a blu upgrade. I don't have Tartuffe, Assassination or the Kaneto's and am thinking of picking up the Criterion blu of Kuroneko. However, it would be a wonderful tribute if MoC re-release them on blu.

I hate it when this thread gets bumped... Always think that another one might have bitten the dust.

Can anyone tell me if Salesman is scheduled for a repressing? I was hoping to pick it up (along with Grey Gardens) but it seems to be out of stock everywhere.

Per the latest newsletter, Assassination is soon to be discontinued. Get it now or never.

I've collected most out of print Criterion titles and would be interested in any feedback folks have about MoC out of print titles. I collect only in-print blu-ray's and out of print titles on DVD. I don't buy in-print DVDs as I hold out hope for a bluray upgrade. I've found it rare for Criterion to bring a title back in print after they have lost the rights to it so it's been worth finding a copy of the OOP title on DVD and of course bluray for the few bluray titles that are OOP. For MoC, it seems maybe they retain the rights to some of the films, but they just go OOP to later be rereleased as a dual-format version or somesuch. Would anyone have feedback on this? Many of the titles that are OOP are fetching a pretty high price on ebay and Amazon UK, and I hate to buy one just to have it go back in print.

Whoever wants to pick up the Touch Of Evil steelbook, now is the time since HMV is going to administration.

It's hardly a bargain at £22. The regular BD is 20 quid, while it's £12.99 at Amazon. It doesn't appear the 25% off code on the site works for these, but even if it did they would still be pretty high.

This is not the Bona Fide bargain Thread, I am just informing people that it will go OOP.

If you can get to a store they appear to be selling them for £15.

HMV going under kinda invalidates their exclusivity on the TOUCH OF EVIL SteelBook. It could conceivably get a repress, so I wouldn't go hogwild – but I am only guessing!

What's going on with Salesman? Is that officially OOP? The only place that has it is Amazon for £80.

Am I the only one who reads the MoC front page these days?
"It’s difficult to count any one of Pialat’s films as his single “best” (and we’ve championed his work in seven separate, now out-of-print DVD editions of other features and shorts)"
At least all these OOP editions lately will continue to live on in the ether, via torrents.

Is it too much to hope for a limited edition Blu-Ray boxset of the Pialats (a la Late Mizoguchi)?

Just a reminder that all of these newly OOP Pialats can currently be purchased for 50-60% off (with free worldwide shipping) direct from Eureka.

OOP or no, I wouldn't be surprised if the discs are around for a long while yet. If they sold poorly before, I doubt they're going to fly off the shelves now, as demonstrated by the fact both Gandahar and Abhijan have been sat in the OOP section of the shop for several years. Similarly, the very small pressing they did of Michael over a year ago is still available, despite it being OOP for years before and going for big bucks on Amazon and ebay.

But only the features are subbed. The extras are even more extensive than those MoC ported over, but they're all tonguelocked.

Also, they haven't released all of the films (yet), so you'll still need MoC for English-language discs of La gueule ouverte and Passe ton bac d'abord - which are two of his best films (as much as that means anything). And most of those discs are worth the asking price just for the extras anyway.
