I'm curious about his selection of 'PARK ROW (Olive)' in his blu list- is he conflating an MoC dvd with an Olive blu?

If it's any consolation, JR, they only send me the titles I pay for too. Same goes for every other distributor. Appalling, ain't it?

I thought I remembered there being some tweets between MoC and JR earlier this year about how he wasn't getting free review copies and they said that they would fix that. Or maybe I'm thinking of someone else...

Love the fact he implies that only by sending him a disc can a label's releases be deemed worthy of his attention.

No surprises, but Jesus, Argo would be a spineless Best Picture winner...

You've gotta be kidding me with Argo. Ben Affleck must know where the bodies are buried.

Ben Affleck wins Directors Guild Award for Argo.
Not to mention Alejandro González Iñárritu for best commercial, Rian Johnson for an episode of Breaking Bad and...Lena Dunham for Girls.

I'll be somewhat shocked if Argo doesn't win the Best Picture Oscar at this point. It also makes the Director's Oscar more up in the air than it already was. Ang Lee for the upset win, perhaps?

The recognition for Jay Roach is really ridiculous. His tv work is only slightly less pedestrian than his film work.

Roach's work on Recount was enough to steer me away from any future docudramas he might make. Maybe that film improved as it continued, but when I shut it off during the hour mark, it was due to a growing frustration that the director (and screenwriter) seemed more interested in using the film as a highlight reel for pop culture moments surround the election (scenes like Spacey stopping the action of the film to watch a Jimmy Fallon skit on SNL, comment on how it was funny, and then return to the droll action of the film). The design of the film seemed to reward viewers more for their ability to recognize key events in the 2000 election rather than delve into the material with real political savvy. In rewatching Zodiac this weekend, I'm more and more amazed by David Fincher and James Vanderbilt's ability to pile on such an overwhelming amount of information and cultural minutia, trusting that the audience probably won't follow most of it but giving them enough credit that they'll understand a reasonable amount to get through the picture.

It might also be of interest to note that the short film that won, Swimmer, was directed by Lynne Ramsay.

Best bit of the BAFTAs was David O'Russell's reaction to Emmanuelle Riva winning Best Actress.

Don't know how long this video will stay up for, but you can see that very reaction at 2 minutes 44.

I can't tell whether he's disgusted by the choice, or whether he has no idea who Riva is. Or ...

Not sure what to make of the Crash one, but some of those are pretty clever. The one for The English Patient made me chuckle.

I think the Crash one is the wooden doll that Ryan Phillippe pulls out of his pocket at some point because racism

P.S. I'd almost forgotten how many terrible movies have won best picture.

I'm always surprised at how few truly terrible films have won. It's usually meh films that win than actively bad ones.
