Sounds like it's going to be another good year. Can't wait to see what those contemporary works are.

Greatly gratified to receive mentions for CONFIDENCE, CASA DE LAVA, MUNDANE HISTORY and TUESDAY, AFTER CHRISTMAS in Sight & Sound's DVDs & Blu-rays of 2012

Hi!

Many thanks for the recent announcement about Zanussi´s Illumination on DVD!

I´m also a big Jancso fan -- and would like to ask, would you like to release Sirokkó, La pacifista, Hungarian Rhapsody and Allegro barbaro? Just reread a Sight & Sound article about the last two films. Sounds like prime or near-prime Jancso to me. Maybe you could also find some text information about Concerto, the never-filmed third part of the trilogy (with Hungarian Rhapsody and Allegro barbaro), for booklet material?

Such nice words from CineOutsider as Slarek chooses a selection of Second Run titles in his round-up of the best releases of 2012.

Movie Mail are running a great 'Communist Cinema' promotion (lot's of Second Run titles included there at bargain prices!).
Also check out Michael Brooke's terrific essay there too...

A lot of them are currently £6.37 at WOW HD. The clear winner right now.

Great find! Too bad they don't have The Confrontation though.

How do these small companies release such cheap DVDs?

Thanks. I grabbed five and holy crap I'm pleased. But most likely WOW will cancel two or three of them.

They won't. These DVDs are pretty much always dropping down to these prices there, before bouncing back up again.

I can't think of any Second Run release that isn't worth getting at that price, (even the early ones with dodgy transfers).

It's worth nothing that WOW has a US site as well where the prices are good but not as low as £6.37, and that shipping is free to the US whichever portal you use.

By watching every penny like the proverbial hawk. There's a reason that Second Run doesn't do all-stops-out special editions with umpteen bells and whistles: you'll always get a booklet, but if there's an on-disc extra at all it'll probably just be a short video interview or appreciation - there are very few exceptions to that general rule.

But it's a very sensible business model, as Second Run's catalogue is so obscure that it relies on people's willingness to blind-buy. So it's very much in their interest to keep the price as low as possible.

In fact, the two-disc Fighters aside, have they ever released anything for more than £12.99 RRP? (Which in practice means you'll never have to spend more than a tenner even if it's a brand new release).

Ok, that would be fine. They just cancelled my latest order (Will Penny, a western I have never even seen), but maybe they had their reasons.

I've just never had a problem, that's all, and these prices aren't anything stupendous for Second Runs on WOW HD. I keep getting alerts about them dropping down to this level for a short period.

Like Someone in Love
BFI Southbank : June - July 2013
A subtly tender film from the great Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami. Its’ subject is the impossibility of intimacy in the modern world and uncertainties about our identities and what we think we see and hear.
