Fat Girl
I haven’t seen this, but I really liked A Very Young Girl and The Last Mistress, with Asia Argento, which I thought was brilliant and hilarious. —Kim Gordon

Re: Criterion Web Site
I enjoy all of the films/releases on the list, but it's the kind of top 10 list I would have heard in my first year of film school. Also, he doesn't much to say about the films (I'm a sucker for paragraphs) or directors (on Brakhage: "Crazy-ass experimental filmmaker"). I guess CC is just doing all it can to expand its audience now that they've exhausted their wealth of willing filmmakers and industry professionals, which will end up turning over more and more surprising fans of the Collection. These lists are great when one discovers how impressive/adventurous/learned a celebrity is; especially so when they are not known for an association with "art film." But I don't know who this guy is (probably my fault, but usually I don't endorse musicians who allow photography of their open mouths) so I can't really affirm or subvert any of my expectations about his movie-going experience. As a result, he just goes into my category of "Humans I don't know that are aware of the Criterion Collection." And as far as people in that category go (at least in my experience), this list is quite typical.matrixschmatrix wrote:Huh? What's wrong with it?
tl;dr: its 2 surf4ce.

Has anyone had luck recently with Mulvaney addressing packaging issues? I emailed them about a month ago asking if there was any way to purchase a replacement book, and realized today that this was the third time in a little over a year I've politely emailed them asking if I could purchase a replacement digipak or booklet that was badly damaged, only to be ignored.

Roger Corman's Top 10
I'd probably be a lot more forgiving of Criterion if they actually released a Corman film on DVD.

I was kind of dissappointed in that list. It reads like a Who's Who of the Criterion Collection. It'd be like an artist listing their favorite paintings as the Mona Lisa, Starry Night, and the Last Supper.Matt wrote:Roger Corman's Top 10

Sure, it's an unsurprising, canonical list, but it's coming from the guy who made A Bucket of Blood and The Wasp Woman.

Re: Criterion Web Site
That's just Corman's taste. He is, along with the Janus Films crew, largely responsible for the distribution of Bergman, Fellini, Truffaut, Kurosawa, et. al. in the United States during the 70s. His New World Pictures was the original theatrical distributor of Cries and Whispers, Autumn Sonata, Amarcord, and Dersu Uzala among others.jindianajonz wrote:I was kind of dissappointed in that list. He probably just got asked to participate in the list-making because of being pals with the Becker and Turell clans, but it would be nice to think they were working on Targets.

Corman's comments are pretty amazing, don't just skim for the titles, read his capsule thoughts too.

Re: Criterion Web Site
If you know her interests well enough, the Zola Jesus top ten isn't a huge surprise but it's still a really good list. World on a Wire at number one is a surprise to me as I thought she'd place a Cronenberg there. Now I have to watch Wise Blood.
Also, she wrote about Teshigahara elsewhere recently.

70% of them released in the last two years (and 30% in the last month)!

Re: Criterion Web Site
Is anybody else having problems trying to access lists on the site? It seems like newly created lists have been sending you back to your my criterion page every time you try to access it. If anybody wants to see if this is real, try to get on Eric Levy's David Kehr list (http://www.criterion.com/lists/264510-d ... -1974-1986" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;).

Also on the site there have been a lot spam lists. I wonder if that has something to do with it?sir_luke wrote:It has a message saying, "Due to technical maintenance, public lists are temporarily disabled."

Wait a minute. Other public public lists are open. Try this one (http://www.criterion.com/lists/171199-t ... ovie-syncs" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)sir_luke wrote:It has a message saying, "Due to technical maintenance, public lists are temporarily disabled."

All day Friday, early in the morning and at various times throughout the day and night (from at home and work), the site was timing out often, which could definitely be attributed to a spike in spam.

The Daily is going on a short hiatus and My Criterion is being temporarily disabled at the end of the month - seems like a redesign might be imminent. Hope this doesn't spell doom for our precious phantom pages.

Re: Criterion Web Site
We’re Building Something Better!
Dear My Criterion Users,
We know how important the list-making features of our site are to the 100,000-plus users who have posted more than 500,000 lists. So we wanted to give you all a heads-up that My Criterion will be going offline temporarily at the end of this month for a total overhaul.
Your lists are safe and will be back and better than ever as soon as we’re done. Your wishlist will still be active and readily available, but you may want to print or save your custom lists and top 10s if you use them for reference or teaching purposes. We’ll let you know when the new My Criterion goes live later this year!
