Our Beloved Month of August is on the way. Glad to see it getting an R1 release, and just might have to double dip is the extras are tempting enough.

Re: Cinema Guild
Does anyone else have this problem with the Blu-ray? The feature plays absolutely fine, but both the short film and one of the interviews plays in a small box on the top / left portion of the screen, while the subtitles play centered at the bottom of the screen, like normal.
I tried emailing Cinema Guild but haven't received a response in weeks.
Thanks in advance!

Re: Cinema Guild
I had the same issue with the UK Blu of Raging Bull for a number of the extras. It was just a firmware update that resolved it, so you may want to try giving your player an update.jp4151 wrote:Does anyone else have this problem with the Blu-ray? The same odd thing happened for me on the deleted scenes on Blue Underground's Baba Yaga Blu as well

Re: Cinema Guild
It does sound like a firmware update issue. If you've been sending emails to our info@cinemaguild.com account, sometimes that email account gets overrun with spam. But feel free to send an email to pkelly@cinemaguild.com with your blu-ray player model and we'll look into it.jp4151 wrote:Does anyone else have this problem with the Blu-ray? Re: Cinema Guild
I actually just ran into the exact same problem with my O Brother, Where Art Thou? blu. At first, I thought it was a problem with the disc, since I've never had anything like that happen before, but a quick Google search revealed that it's a common flaw with Insignia players in particular. I'm not sure what type of machine you're using, but a firmware update wasn't an option for me, since doing so would lose my player's region free capabilities. This is why I always keep a back-up blu ray player.

Unfortunately, it looks like it'll be DVD only for The Day He Arrives, as per Facebook. What A Disgrace wrote:Robbie Pickering's Natural Selection and Hong Sang-soo's The Day He Arrives are listed on their website as Coming Soon. I hope the latter is a Blu-ray.

For those who want Hong Sang-soo on blu, there's always the Korean disc. It apparently has English subs.Applesauce wrote:Unfortunately, it looks like it'll be DVD only for The Day He Arrives, as per Facebook.

Re: Cinema Guild
Still would be preferable to have a Cinema Guild release, since the Korean BD runs about $40 after shipping. And for some reason the only internationally-friendly retailer that sells it (outside of eBay) is KimchiDVD, who I'm a little pissed at for never getting any copies of the digipack version. They also have the Oki's Movie Blu.
And while this really belongs in the Filmmaker thread that I've shamefully neglected, In Another Country comes out on Korean DVD next week. I expect a Korean BD within a few months, but Kino Lorber (who picked it up for the U.S.) are much more gung-ho about Blu than Cinema Guild, so hopefully that won't be the only option.

What great timing to make two pre-orders! It's great to see James Quandt contributing to this.

It's on a single DVD, utilizing every bit of disc space. Our usual assortment of CG trailers will probably have to go.

Re: Cinema Guild
And wonderful to get to see the BFI interview with Tony Rayns in its entirety! Half-jokingly I hope there's HOH subs on that though, as I have to occasionally really strain my ears to decipher Hong's soft-spoken answers in this clip He seems like such a sympathetic guy, and I haven't found many interviews with him, so this is really a great extra - thanks again, Cinema Guild!Jean-Luc Garbo wrote:What great timing to make two pre-orders! CG just linked to an article in the Times about Ben Rivers' Two Years at Sea with a note to stay tuned for some exciting news next week. My knees are weak with anticipation.
EDIT: On Twitter. Spaced out on that detail in the excitement.

Never heard of this film before, but it looks amazing. Just the kind of thing I rely on a company like Cinema Guild to introduce me to. Seems like an easy blind buy.

Christ - that's incredible, whatever it means. At worst - - we get treated to the lovely and strange Two Years at Sea; on the other end of the speculative scenario spectrum, could this mean a box set? I'd kill to get TYaS paired with Slow Action and an assortment of shorts. I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Rivers in London this past summer - a really humble, articulate guy. He even drew an insider's map of London for my wife and I who were visiting for the first time!
