haha, right, that's going to be helpful.

Here's the Laputa top 150 from 2003. Yuri Norstein wins again, and there's a lot more of japanese animation, which is a GOOD thing, otherwise I would have never heard of The Little Prince and the Eight-Headed Dragon, it's UPA meet anime, and Akira Ifukube's best film score. But there's a lot of weird stuff (obscure commercials, "Mickey Mouse", Vynález zkázy which is totally a (great) live-action film, etc.) and TV series.
There's also a great list of 30 addtionnal titles

And Annecy's 2006 list. I can't find it online, so here (not a single feature film in this one, and Gertie and Fantasmagorie as number 1 and 2 is somewhat weird):

Is there a watchable subbed version of Vynález zkázy anywhere? I haven't seen that film since I was in diapers.

Much appreciation, Saturnome. I, too, wanted to see as many of the films on the list as I could and I'd since started to think I'd just imagined the whole thing, (in which case I evidently learned about Alexeieff when his spirit visited me in my dreams and then erased all memory of the confrontation with the exception of the title of that particular film and where I could find it on - OK, I think that's enough). And besides, you've gotta love any list where Yellow Submarine gets more votes than Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Came across this rather new list from TimeOut when searching for a list for just feature length animation to acccompany Annecy's animated shorts list a few posts above. The latest film included is last year's The Mitchells vs. the Machines. While remaining generous to big studios like Disney, Ghibli and Pixar, the list also reserved plenty slots for filmmakers such as Kon Satoshi, Ralph Bakshi, Jan Svankmajer, etc.

. . and yet no room for Yuri Norstein, Jiri Trnka or Tex Avery! 😲

It's a feature length only list, so no Yuri Norstein (until he completes the film he's been working on for 30 years!) or Tex Avery. But yes, no Jiri Trnka is pretty terrible. A Midsummer Night’s Dream or Old Czech Legends are pretty important and incredible films which are way too overlooked these days.

It's not too bad of a list, too many average family films to my taste, but every list of feature length animated films will be like that. It's really nice to see Starewicz's Le Roman de Renard, Fehérlófia or Night on the Galactic Railroad.

I'd add 25 films to make some variety:
Wolfwalkers (2020, Tomm Moore, Ross Stewart)
On-Gaku: Our Sound (2019, Kenji Iwaisawa)
The Grand Bizarre (2018, Jodie Mack)
La casa lobo (2018, Cristóbal León, Joaquín Cociña)
Night is Short, Walk on Girl (2017, Masaaki Yuasa)
Wolf Children (2012, Mamoru Hosoda)
Blood Tea and Red String (2006, Christiane Cegavske)
The Thief and the Cobbler (~1993, Richard Williams)
The Cat Who Walked by Herself (1988, Ideya Garanina)
Royal Space Force - The Wings Of Honneamise (1987, Hiroyuki Yamaga)
Krysar (1986, Jiří Barta)
Angel's Egg (1985, Mamoru Oshii)
Gwen et le livre de sable (1985, Jean-François Laguionie)
Chronopolis (1983, Piotr Kamler)
Habfürdö (1980, György Kovásznai)
Hugó, a víziló (1975, Bill Feigenbaum)
Flåklypa Grand Prix (1975, Ivo Caprino)
Belladonna of Sadness (1973, Eiichi Yamamoto)
János Vitéz (1973, Marcell Jankovics)
Bennys badekar (1971, Jannik Hastrup, Flemming Quist Møller)
Adam II (1969, Jan Lenica)
The Little Prince and the Eight-Headed Dragon (1963, Yugo Serikawa)
A Midsummer Night’s Dream (1959, Jiří Trnka)
Old Czech Legends (1953, Jiří Trnka)
L'horloge magique ou La petite fille qui voulait être princesse (1928, Wladyslaw Starewicz)

I liked the linkage of Takahata's Only Yesterday to Naruse! But how could they leave off Kaguyahime?

Or The Plague Dogs, Twice Upon a Time, The Adventures of Mark Twain, Chronopolis (yes, it's about an hour long, but close enough for a feature), Another Day of Life...

But, hey, all those masterpieces from DreamWorks and Pixar get the long-awaited recognition they need.
