If anyone can't wait, this book includes a DVD of the director's cut (incorporating "new scenes, an improved sound track with a totally new musical score by "Dr. Loco and Los Tiburones del Norte," English subtitles, and interviews with the director and other participants", all of which I'm guessing the Criterion release will draw upon), as well as a soundtrack CD.

That looks a lot like Monica Vitti. L'Avventura maybe?

It reminds me of Peixoto's Limite, which would be amazing. The aspect ratio is wrong, but maybe that doesn't mean much for a FB post.

Good lord, that's not Limite, is it? (Craftily reframed to look widescreen)

EDIT: Snap!

jlecates nailed it. Of course I'm thrilled for Monika, but since we already knew it was coming, Limite would have been really really exciting.

Well, we sort of took the oomph out of that teaser didn't we? Nevertheless, 'ray for Monika.

How I hope this is announced soon, even though it isn't for this clue.

Hmmm... I had guessed that this picture from the 2011 New Year's clue was Silvana Mangano in Bitter Rice. Since then, we assumed it was on its way.

I have to wonder now if it might not be Monika.

I suppose that since Janus has the U.S. rights to both films, they're both coming eventually. It might mean that Bitter Rice isn't as imminent as we once thought.

I thought we were wrong on The Four Feathers as well (meant to be Darjeeling). Maybe Criterion pitied us and decided to release it sooner anyway (a year later).

Although, what's the story on this release? Amazon says it came out this past May. I can't find any information on who released it. Final nail in the coffin or is it a PD bandit?

Not that Lars Ekborg was particularly ugly, but he weren't no Monica Vitti.

Never seen that before. It's an MOD product, and there's no indication of who is releasing it. It's certainly a Janus film and is available on the Criterion Hulu channel. The Amazon product sounds like some bootlegger shenanigans to me.

Jeff, I thought the girl lying on the boat was Monika. They wouldn't have two clues for the same film, would they?

What Andy said. The girl lying on a boat (though it's a car in the drawing) is definitely Monika. She was on the 2012 drawing. The other one that I'm speculating might be Monika was from the 2011 drawing. I'm thinking that like Y Tu Mama Tambien, they had planned to get it out in 2011 but didn't make it, so they hinted it again the following year. (And yeah, it's possible the same thing happened with Four Feathers on the 2010 and 2011 clues).
