I would love to see someone(gilliam or otherwise) release a film that has different sections or scenes in different aspect ratios, just to fuck with everybody. As for Tideland, I'm holding out for a fixed dvd.

Looking at the dvd package, you'd never think they molested it. It seems packed with extras. I wonder why they would dishonor a Gilliam film like this...

I can now confirm that the rumored-to-be-correct region 3 (Hong Kong) release of Tideland by Panorama is in fact NOT correct, and has the same framing as the US release:

Moreover, it's a New Yorker style PAL-to-NTSC transfer:

Is this the SD 2-DVD set only or also the HD DVD?

Apparently The Other Side of the Wind is going to be like that too. Welles apparently wanted a collage of footage with different film types and aspect ratios.

German DVD (rental DVD without extras) vs US DVD

The German Special Edition coming October 25th

HD DVD and BluRay on November 11th.
I believe the DVD is from their HD master and so the HD DVD and BluRay are also in the same ratio.

God, it looks so much better in 2.35:1. Great news!

And here I was thinking the 2.35 was just matted. Thank god, I hope it gets released properly now. 16:9 pan-scan, there's a new one.

According to this DVDTalk thread, Jabberwocky is going OOP. Knowing Sony, it could take sometime before they release it again.
