Amazon plans to make this the first film that they self distribute and will handle distribution for all of their films 2018 and onwards. I wonder if they'll still put out dvd and blu's or if they'll go the Netflix route.

That plot outline also sounds like Timberlake is returning to his Southland Tales character who was also a lifeguard with a vivid imagination!

Ugh. Don't put this thought in my head. As a physical media Woody completist, it still irks me that Crisis in Six Scenes in unavailable on blu-ray (regardless of how bad it may be). But Netflix has released more of their shows and movies on blu-ray than Amazon. Has Netflix recently stopped doing this?ianungstad wrote:Amazon plans to make this the first film that they self distribute and will handle distribution for all of their films 2018 and onwards. Netflix hasn't released any of their in-house originals on physical media, only titles shepherded from other studios

Yeah, I'd say it's still a fairly safe bet that Amazon will be interested in releasing some titles, unlike Netflix

Obviously it could be all wrong but the overwhelming sense I've gotten from how Amazon's been playing this is they legitimately think it has really serious awards hopes, in particular for Winslet with theoretical script, picture, supporting actor nods as well (and the cinematography nomination should be a shoo-in regardless of if the film ends up being great, considering who's doing it and the time of year). The trailer's presumably coming this week what with that poster being released but for what little it's worth I'm definitely getting the feeling this is being underanticipated in regards to the end of the year awards circuit.

Re: Wonder Wheel (Woody Allen, 2017)
If it ended up being a heavy award contender, I wonder if that would make Amazon reconsider its stance on home media. I mean--this is a bit of a leap here--but might we be approaching an era where we could see the first Best Picture winning film not available on home media? (Again, not suggesting Wonder Wheel will win BP but feasibly some other Netflix or Amazon film might in the next few years).Ribs wrote:Obviously it could be all wrong but the overwhelming sense I've gotten from how Amazon's been playing this is they legitimately think it has really serious awards hopes, in particular for Winslet with theoretical script, picture, supporting actor nods as well (and the cinematography nomination should be a shoo-in regardless of if the film ends up being great, considering who's doing it and the time of year). Netflix also releases many of its TV series on home video. Trust me -- if a film is nominated for Best Picture, the studio would not be dumb enough not to capitalize on that by releasing it on home video.

That had a distribution partner. Wonder Wheel is the first film that Amazon Studies is distributing alone.swo17 wrote:Manchester by the Sea got a home video release.

Though it's not been perfect, Amazon has absolutely been taking a slow-and-steady approach with how they've done any significant changes. I highly doubt this will not be released on home video in Q2 2018 by somebody.

Isn't Love and Friendship an Amazon release? It has a decent blu-ray out there, along with being free to stream through prime.

Re: Wonder Wheel (Woody Allen, 2017)
All previous Amazon Studios films have home media releases because they all had distribution partners. Cafe Society, for example, was co-distributed by Lionsgate and the blu-ray was from Lionsgate home video. The Love & Friendship disc came from Sony. Manchester by the Sea released by Lionsgate. This is the very first film Amazon has ever released without a partner. I would love to be wrong and see this come out from a home media distribution partner (Sony? Lionsgate? even Criterion?) as I am a Woody completist, but I just have a sinking feeling this may be the first film I want that I can't have on physical media (I'm bracing for impact, so to speak); The Irishman may be the second. It already irks me that Crisis in Six Scenes doesn't have a physical media release.

Okja is that way for me. However I'm sure it could eventually get a release since the films main target of release isn't streaming right? (As opposed to Netflix's films)

That poster is great!
I somewhat expected the film to be a comedy though, and that poster is definitely pointing in a different direction (not that I'm complaining).

Two words kept flashing in my mind as I watched this trailer:
1. Storaro
2. 'N SYNC

For NYorkers: is Coney Island so crowed and popular today? Is as cool as Barcelona beaches? or is dirty and out of fashion?
