"Fanfan la Tulip" is scheduled to run at Film Forum from July 21st thru August 3rd. Discuss.
On another note, Film Forum's updated their Repertory Schedule thru mid-October, with retrospectives on Frank Tashlin (including a one-week run of "The Girl Can't Help It"), Kenji Mizoguchi and Monty Python; plus runs of "Discrete Charm of the Bourgeoisie," "California Split" and a "Summer Swashbucklers" festival. No details yet on which films are being included in each series.

The re-release poster for Fanfan la Tulipe, slightly altered, will make a lovely DVD cover.

I just saw the BFI's new print of The Fallen Idol and it's an astonishing film. One of the great childhood movies, not only getting a fine performance from the lad, but impressive in the way Graham Greene's script absolutely gets into the mindset and logic of a child. The effortless shifts between tension, humour and pathos show for all the world to see what an immense director Carol Reed was. How this was left off the BFI's Top 100 list I have no idea. Actually I do, but never mind that now. A must-see or must-rent, at the very least.

I've only seen this film on a really bad VHS tape with hard to read subtitles. I don't remember it being on par with Weekend or Pierrot or Contempt or even M-F, but I look forward to giving it another shot, especially now that I'll be expecting it to be a bit heavy handed with commercialism criticism.Buttery Jeb wrote:Godard's "Two or Three Things I Know About Her" will finally open at the NY Film Forum on November 17th.

Am I right to assume that it takes about 6 months to a year from the time they are in the theaters to the time they are on Criterion DVD?Matt wrote:Rialto's site is showing a theatrical run starting in January.Ted Todorov wrote:Mafioso played at the NYFF with a sparkling new print (and a Rialto logo), so I imagine the Criterion can't be too far behind.

Thats correct. Army of Shadows came out in April, but we haven't see a DVD yet. Some come out sooner than others, but your timetable is a good estimate.justeleblanc wrote:Am I right to assume that it takes about 6 months to a year from the time they are in the theaters to the time they are on Criterion DVD?

They seem to have been having some trouble scraping together supplements for their Bunuel releases, and they've already tackled several of the later French films, so maybe they're saving The Milky Way for a bare-bones Eclipse. Personally, just about anything Mexican is welcome to jump the queue!miless wrote:I hope those two are soon...Cinephrenic wrote:Perhaps they are prioritizing. Exterminating Angel, Simon of the Desert.
then I'm hoping for Los Olvidados
but they could release any Buñuel films and I'd be ecstatc
