That first shot of Lee Van Cleef looks like he's mincing down the High Street with excruciating piles.

The 5-year gold list might now be an even better option than the 10-year was. If releases are level over all ten years, your overall savings are only 20% less than for the 10-year option, but the 5-year option is a much safer bet. Let's say that Arrow USA is expected to put out 45 releases a year, but that there's also a 10% chance each year that you will actually get nothing. Then if you risk-adjust the expected price you're paying per release, it's about $9.50 under the 10-year option, and only $9 under the 5-year option.

The update has predictably led to a lot more people jumping on the 5 year deal. They are now about to hit $90,000, with 14 lists remaining, which will definitely sell out. I predict somewhere around $120,000 by the end of the campaign.

That is indeed exciting. I truly regret not being able to participate in this one (short on cash/recent homeowner!) but all the best to Arrow and I look forward to giving you my money in the states.

Well, it's official. Shout Factory has competition. ;)

5-year plans are now sold out. $112,000 raised so far and they haven't even announced all of their first releases yet!

It's nice to see a label being ambitious and trying to expand. I wondered for a long time why no successful label had attempted to move into a second market. Whilst I am imagine it is daunting, long term it would seem to be an obvious move with big financial benefits in terms of over how many more units you can spread your fixed costs per release. With it being the US and UK, there's no real localisation issues either.

Wouldn't Raro and (the late) Tartan count as secondary market jumpers?

Yeah, I guess, although Raro's catalogue either side of the Atlantic is completely different and even the same films have wildly different releases (with differing transfers, extras missing etc.). They seem to operate as two different entities.

I know Arrow Video and Arrow Video US won't be able to release exactly the same catalogue, but I expect there to be a lot more joined-up thinking. It sounds like they want to spread their hard work wider, rather than duplicate it.

Tartan was before my time collecting.

Both the releases that I'm currently developing for Arrow Video USA (Day of Anger, Dr Jekyll) will be absolutely identical to the UK versions in terms of the discs themselves - the only differences will be minor cosmetic issues (barcodes, BBFC logos, etc.).

I hope Spirits of the Dead will be a part of their lineup.

Their existing Blu release is region-free, in case you weren't aware.

Strange days
Dr.Giggles
Evil spirit of Yambuy
Human Nature

Nomads for me. If Shout Factory won't do it then let Arrow make an MGM deal of their own in the US. I'm sure there are some titles waiting for them.

I'd pick it up in a heartbeat! Maybe they could convince McTiernan to let them include his previous, unreleased horror film as a supplement.

He made a horror short called The Watcher when he was a student at AFI (in 1982 I think). Years before that, in 1974, he made a 16mm film called The Demon's Daughter. I was sure I'd heard it was a horror film, but this page (in French, so I don't understand it all...) describes it as a Viking saga. It was actually scored by Craig Safan, who mentions it briefly in this interview. Would be a major coup if Arrow could include it as a supplement, though it would probably be a better fit on a 13th Warriors disc, maybe along with his Eaters of the Dead-cut \:D/

Edit: The Watcher was made in 1979, and scored by James Horner! http://johnmctiernandatabase.blogspot.f ... /court%20m" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;étrage

You learn something new everyday. Now I really want Arrow Video to get its hands on Nomads.

I'm a bit confused by Arrow's new title announcement for March, which for North America only includes titles already announced on Indiegogo as part of Arrow US's opening slate for February (Blind Woman's Curse, Day of Anger and Mark of the Devil ). Sorry for having to rag on a label I'm truly excited about, but is the only real news here re Arrow US that they're delaying their February kick-off to March?

Indiegogo was an estimation, we will certainly try and still get copies out to backers by February but when it came to finally liasing with retail and sales February just wasn't viable. Sorry this feels like a retread but of course there will be many who just didn't see Indiegogo so we do need to, effectively, announce again. April's releases will bring some surprises though...
