From a couple of screenshots the RHV looks preferable.

Well, the Bologna restoration has no grain at all, and the clouds on the second image are burned out...

I've seen this "restoration" in motion. The Ripley's is to be preferred.

Wow, that is bad. What was the consensus on the GtB&tU restoration that was shrouded in sepia?

The problem is that in a few months the Ripley's Blu-ray will be OOP and Bologna's shameful transfer (sponsored by Scorsese's Film Foundation) will hit the international markets...

Much like the new GBU transfer, I'm not sure what to make of the grading. But detail and grain structure look much better on the new AFoD transfer, and would be even more apparent if we had some full rez caps. Look at the third cap, at the black dress and smoke to the left, and tell me the new transfer has "no grain at all". The old transfer looks, well, old, with rather blocky looking grain. The third cap in particular looks very poor in this regard. Some people made similar comments about the new The Innocents transfer, which were of course complete nonsense.

The Japanese BD uses the '07 restoration and just came out in October, so it will hopefully be around for awhile longer regardless of what happens to the Ripley edition. But of course you have to pay Japanese prices for it (more than $50 before shipping, unless they do a cheaper cut-down edition in the future).

Yes, but in the next years, any label who will buy rights for the film will get the 2014 restoration.
