Re: The Apartment
Same here. I can't believe this. What's the meaning of pre-order?

Oh, good to know I'm not alone on the whole cancelled thing.

Re: The Apartment
Placed order at Deepdiscount with EGGNOG coupon, but it's backordered and hoping it won't get cancelled.

Re: The Apartment
I also received the cancellation email from Amazon this morning. Quickly ordered it direct from Arrow.

Re: The Apartment
Cancelled here too (ordered on day 1 of pre-order). Does this mean that Amazon got next to zero copies? I don't understand how they can sell an item that they will never have

Re: The Apartment
I ended up ordering from both DeepDiscount and Amazon.co.uk, as I'm not taking any chances on missing this. On the off chance that I end up receiving both, I'll sell one on here for cost rather than going the usual gouging route on eBay, in the shared holiday spirit of Fuck Amazon

Re: The Apartment
I just ordered from Arrow ($37.77 shipped to U.S.) as I *really* didn't want to miss this release.

Re: The Apartment
I imagine this has little to do with stock levels and is just that Amazon still hasn’t gotten stock in after release and has thus opted to cancel instead, a fairly common practice they’ve done on Arrow titles in the past. No one has it in stock for the simple reason US stock still hasn’t went out.

Not so, people have received stateside orders from Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Bullmoose, and Diabolik

I mean, I think I'm right that this is just Amazon being Amazon and doing whatever they can to back out of a pre-order price guarantee. I'm curious if it might be instore at any BNs where it would theoretically be 50% off (can't find a web listing).

Re: The Apartment
I ordered it from Deep Discount with my fingers crossed (can't get over taking a huge price leap), but this really sucks. What was once going to be a Christmas present is now a total boondoggle.

Re: The Apartment
Quite possible. Also quite possible Arrow said no more copies were available for Amazon. The price was super cheap and it is a popular and fairly mainstream film as far as studio era Hollywood goes, so it's not implausible that it's sold out (though I likewise am unconvinced it is)Ribs wrote:I mean, I think I'm right that this is just Amazon being Amazon and doing whatever they can to back out of a pre-order price guarantee. Add me to the cancelled by Amazon list. Ah well, I'll wait for a bookless version.

Wish I hadn't sold my old copy, as I have to forgo my annual tradition of watching this between Christmas and New Years. Guess I'll just have to watch one of the literally thousands of other movies I own

Blu-ray.com users are reporting Diabolik has removed its listing and is canceling orders. This may indeed be OOP...

Re: The Apartment
Mine was cancelled, too. Amazon chat help said people would be e-mailed when it's back in stock in a week, but this still strikes me as very ridiculous.

Re: The Apartment
My order was cancelled too. It pissed me off a lot as I pre-ordered it back in November.
What's been going on with Arrow? I have stopped picking up their films when each order suddenly became a gamble of "does it includes a booklet or not". At least Indicator changes their packaging when they re-release their films so you know which edition it is. With these weird limited pressings, it feels like the films go out-of-print before I can ever get it, which then creates that unhealthy scalpers market on eBay or that stupid artificial scarcity that already plagues all the bad independent music labels. I'm typically not a first-day buyer with films and usually wait a few months to years down the line, so I find this very frustrating. Criterion never does anything like this unless their films have to go out-of-print. If I suddenly choose to buy a release they put out four or five years ago, I never have to worry that it's an inferior edition. Plus with all their delays on every single one of their releases, it zapped a lot of the enthusiasm I had for them.

Re: The Apartment
My Amazon US order was just cancelled as well. FWIW, Amazon UK still has copies with a net cost of about $33 after shipping and removal of VAT.

Re: The Apartment
Was it even released in US? It seems orders were cancelled when release date passed (December 26) and Amazon didn't get any copies in stock.

Re: The Apartment
A friend who ordered from Amazon US when it was first announced at about $33 on October 13 (corrected from my original post) had his order fulfilled at the lowered $22 price. I ordered mine after the price drop and was just canceled. They must have run out their fulfillment.
(Further correction: They haven’t had their order cancelled, but haven’t received it yet either. Apologies for any confusion due to my earlier post.)

Re: The Apartment
Not that this helps most of you, but if anyone's in Toronto, Bay Street Video had quite a few copies in stock. I picked one up last week, and it's magnificent.
