I'm aware the show is on Netflix, I know this sounds silly would it be good to start there to decide if I want to buy the set?

The first season is set up as a mystery that takes at the entirity of the episodes to resolve. I'm guessing that you would probably be compelled to watch at least to that point. But sure, the US pilot would give you a good idea of what to expect.

Just be sure to watch the pilot, and not the European telemovie version that has an ending that gives answers to things that are left hanging in the series for quite some time.
Personally I think it'd be about the best TV-related blind buy you could make, but there's no harm in testing the waters if you're unsure.
The second season does loose it's way for a bit (though not necessarily in a bad way, it just becomes a somewhat different show), with a marked change in tone and approach to the writing, but things definitely get righted before the end.
Fire Walk With Me, while a prequel, is best viewed after the entire series.

Yes, but as others have noted, Episode 16 (the ninth episode of Season Two) marks the resolution of the main storyline introduced in the pilot (which is not designated as an episode). If you like the pilot, the following 16 entries in the series remain remarkably consistent with it in terms of quality, whether Lynch is directing or not. These episodes also provide enough closure to the various story threads that you can easily return to them for future viewings without feeling the need to wade through the remaining 13 episodes.

However, I would be willing to own this set if it only contained the series' final episode which is easily the most deranged piece of filmmaking ever produced for network television (EDIT: I mean U.S. network television). And that's saying a lot given the content of this show.

Wise's terrific in it and Lynch seems very moved by his performance so this extra might just be the best thing about the new set. But does anyone else think it's a missed opportunity that the interviews take place in a busy restaurant as opposed to either the Palmer house or even the Red Room, both of which strike me as a more logical and appropriate choice than this cafe/restaurant setting? Granted, none of us have seen the full piece yet and there may be a good reason for it being set where it is but still.. It'd have been a nice touch too to see Leland DRESSED in character, i.e. suit and tie like in the show's final episode. And while we are at it, why not interview Cooper too (maybe Kyle does show up and it's kept as a surprise)?

Part of me sort of wishes Lynch had done the interviews as Gordon Cole. That would have been even more surreal.

I hope we get to see some input from Mark Frost as well in the retrospective.

PS.: They couldn't have picked a worse voiceover for the full set trailer if they'd tried. Should have gotten Kimmy Robertson or Catherine Coulson to do it.

I believe Paramount also withheld the disc containing FWWM and the deleted scenes from review copies (presumably for fear of the latter leaking early).

Disc 9 containing the Missing Pieces was indeed withheld from some reviewers at least; Sci Fi mentioned in their review that that one disc was not available to them but it'd appears from Gary's screenshots that his set included Disc 9. Unless of course he received a retail copy early.

Early word has it that the audio on the FWWM deleted scenes is out of sync, confirming some tweets out of the UK last week.
