Re: TV on DVD
The only episode I vaguely remember was the one where he built a submarine in his shower.

I hope these come with the same option of the previously released "Best Of" discs to turn the laugh track off

Re: TV on DVD
Did all the episodes on those discs have that feature, though? I only remember it being on a couple of them.

Re: TV on DVD
I only had one of the two (?) discs that were put out (and I too sold it for beaucoup bucks some time back), but I thought all the eps on the disc did... but this was many moons ago, so I could be wrong

I liked this show when I was a kid. I hope it still lives up to the memories.

Re: TV on DVD
Great news on Get a Life. This one has supposedly been in the works, but invariably stalled, for years now. I pray that it holds up after all these years (I know that the big 11 o'clock number from Zoo Animals on Wheels is as great as it was 20 years ago).

What? Does Chris Elliot disown the show or something?

DVDTalk review of "Get A Life" The Complete Series
So apparently Chris Elliot was just too busy to be involved?

Mirkin's Simpsons commentaries are fantastic, so I'm very much looking forward to this

Re: Get a Life
I've been making my way through the Shout! DVD set over the last couple months on a rec from a friend, and this is some kind of genius, way ahead of its time and so perverse to the early 90s sitcom world that it's no mystery it was canceled and seemingly ignored by mass audiences. I'm only a disc into season 2 (so I have yet to see the Charlie Kaufman-penned eps) but it's so clearly a live-action version of the irreverent and surreal dark wit what Mirkin would bring to The Simpsons' best seasons as showrunner that I want to advertise it to all die-hard fans of that show who may not know this even existed. The construction worker ep alone feels like it could be animated and inserted somewhere into The Simpsons' fifth season and nobody would bat an eye.

Re: Get a Life
I've been eying this set for a long while but have been afraid to revisit this one out of fear it would be yet another one of those things from my childhood/teen years that just wouldn't live up to my memories of it. But you pushed me to finally order it so here's hoping.

Re: Get a Life
I can’t imagine it would be a letdown, but nostalgia can color things for sure. I also haven’t watched any of the eps sans laugh track yet, which is a terrific feature that I expect really morphs the tone further, so you can always go that route and have a novel experience!cdnchris wrote: ↑Tue Sep 14, 2021 12:52 amI've been eying this set for a long while but have been afraid to revisit this one out of fear it would be yet another one of those things from my childhood/teen years that just wouldn't live up to my memories of it. Re: Get a Life
My revisit a few years ago produced untold swaths of joy.
The episode where Chris finds his way onto the wrong side of the tracks and meets/is initiated into the gang is one of the funniest things ever written for television. And I'm talking SCTV levels of absurdity. Hearing them (for the first time since its original broadcast) taunt them with "Beardy" broke me into a mad fit of giggles.
I, too, heartily recommend.

Also, be sure to look up all the Elliot appearances on Letterman people have been uploading to YT, he was on some next level alternative comedy decades before it became mainstream
