Fuck yes Silk Stockings! I swear I was just randomly thinking the other day how wild it would be if that was one of their next upgrades and here we are. Finally, another good musical!

The back of the Virginia Woolf Blu-Ray doesn't even bother to list all of the special features, or explain what half the listed features are

Had never heard about Love me or leave me, but it has two big stars and 5 Oscar nominations, so there must be some fans.

Very excited about Yellow Ribbon and specially Silk Stockings.

Should we assume WHV has stopped releasing classic films (except for the occasional re-release of The Wizard of Oz and Gone with the Wind)?

No. They have Chisum and McQ coming out through regular WHV release on 6/7. It's now just a matter of whether they think random store patron will buy something on impulse in a brick and mortar store. In the case of the two above, John Wayne still gets impulse sales. Very few other films still do.

Didn't they say films they don't have international rights to go into the Archives?

It probably changed since Bogart/Bacalls and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? are owned by Warner in all territories.

It's definitely changed. Not that the Bogart/Bacall titles have menus like regular releases and not like Warner Archive releases. They also have audio tracks and subtitle tracks that aren't just English.

Regardless, new-to-BD B&W releases through the mainline will probably slow to almost non-existence.

Makes no difference to me. It's probably been ten years since I bought a video release anywhere but online.

Well, I believe some mainline releases added new special features or stuff like that, but that's not usual for a WAC release, is it? And than there's also the price... But I won't complain, I'm just glad we're getting some films instead of nothing.

The WACs are usually available for around $17-$20 on Amazon or with a B&N coupon if price is that big of an issue for you.

I know, but Musicals 4-Movie Collection released by WHV has 4 movies on blu-ray for $20. Even if you buy than individually you're bound to get them for $10 sometime. That's a big difference from WAC prices, but I guess that's what they must do to survive.

A race to the bottom in pricing will mean no more physical media.

This was first posted on the Blu-ray.com forum by kyleschmitty:

Possession is currently $6.99 on Amazon

I haven't seen a Warner Archive Blu go this low before.

Apparently the BD for Suspicion is taken from a brand-new scan from a fine-grain IP struck from the OCN.

They also explain that RKO trailers are rare because they weren't made by the studio and therefore never acquired when RKO's catalog was acquired. When they do obtain them, it's from collectors.

Looking forward to July's release of Mother now that we've cracked the secret Warner Archives upgrade puzzle. WA's record of upgrading some of the worst musicals they have is also going full-steam ahead

Great choice, one of Ford's best.

And the Mother thing was a joke about their Debbie Reynolds fascination (probably because she's still alive?). Maybe it'll bring us I Love Melvin or Give a Girl a Break on Blu-ray though [-o<
