Re: END OF THE ROAD (1970)
Warner Archive:
This would not involve us, so we can't comment definitively, but we do not believe there are any plans to bring this to Blu. If something to that effect is happening, we're not aware of it.
What the hell? WB told us last year that we were getting it on Blu with a Soderbergh-directed doc on it!

Sounds to me that Soderbergh either got bad info or didn't know what the hell he was talking about. In either case, I don't believe Warner ever said anything themselves about the title until that recent FB post.

I'm surprised they wouldn't wait until the promotional campaign for the remake is getting underway. (I believe I read that the new film is slated to come out next year.)
Warner's synopsis for the blu (same as the DVD) begins with:
Hailed as one of the greatest films of all time, The Incredible Mr. Limpet...
Well, I guess you learn something new every day!

The Merry Widow though, nobody gives a damn about that so let's archive it.

August 14:
Cradle 2 the Grave
Fallen
A Man Apart
New Jack City
Romeo Must Die
Shaft
I'll at least stick up for New Jack City, a very underrated and eternally quotable ninetiesploitation film. The rest: vom (but no doubt all will be good sellers on some Walmart endcap)

Which Shaft? I actually like both, but the original is obviously a whole other league.

Pumped for SHAFT. Just wish they had included BIG SCORE as well.

It's the original (surprisingly, given its fellow releasees)

I sort of wish they'd just put out the whole collection (ala Walking Tall), but I'm psyched all the same. Gordon Parks is really fantastic as a writer and not half bad as a director either (shame that The Learning Tree got archived). From that list I also have to admit a soft spot for Fallen even if it never rises above mediocrity.

The Shaft remake is Paramount anyway.

A Blu-ray of Shaft is pretty awesome in my book as well.

Great news regarding the resto of Rio Bravo! Hopefully they'll sort out the muddy colours which plague the Blu and DVDs

I thought the Blu-Ray was okay, but can this movie look better? I really hope so...
This restoration caught me by surprise, I'm hoping it's a real upgrade instead of something marginal. I guess it's a given that they'll use this restoration for a new Blu-Ray reissue (otherwise, why spend the money?)

I'll look forward to a giant box-set release that includes a pair of red women's bloomers with "Rio Bravo" emblazoned across the seat.

Didn't Casablanca come with coasters? Maybe they can include shot glasses in this one. Over time, they can release enough souvenirs to make a full working bar.

In the linked article about the Rio Bravo resto, the mention of the Clara Bow talkie Call Her Savage piqued my interest. I wonder if it'll get any kind of disc release. Until then, cue the Cleaners from Venus: "Clara Bow/ I would like to hear you speaking/ but I can't"

And you got Godzilla's cocktail umbrella with
Singing in the Rain. I bet this is all going to lead up to the quart of gin that'll be packaged with the deluxe edition of
Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?.

Given the problems they've had with scale so far, what's the bet that these will be creepily sized for a three-year-old, and then suddenly withdrawn from the market?

And no doubt the subsequent deluxe edition of
Days of Wine and Roses will come with a pocket-sized edition of
The Big Book.

If I recall correctly, Jane preferred bourbon. But I'd leap at a working replica of Guy Haine's lighter (with the criss-crossed tennis rackets) with a commemorative edition of STRANGERS ON A TRAIN.
