I certainly hope so. The Warner Brothers DVD set was great in quality, but the Universal set (especially the UK set!) was incredibly weak in PQ and AQ. I'm sure Marx Brothers themselves are a big enough draw for Universal to put out in HD, but we can all hope for a Criterion licensed boxset of the Paramount via Universal movies, right?

Unless Universal invests the same level of money into restorations like they did the classic monster films last year I don't see it happening. The Paramount film elements are in really poor shape.

Question about "Schindler's List", does the US Blu come with burned in English captions, or does it have electronic subtitles for the intertitles/locations/etc?

Amazon has preorders for more of the remaining Hitchcocks in the UK:

September 23rd

Vertigo http://www.amazon.co.uk/Vertigo-Blu-ray ... sim_d_h__1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The Man Who Knew Too Much http://www.amazon.co.uk/Knew-Much-Blu-r ... sim_d_h__8" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Rope http://www.amazon.co.uk/Rope-Blu-ray-Re ... _h__text_y" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Torn Curtain http://www.amazon.co.uk/Torn-Curtain-Bl ... rn+Curtain" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Frenzy http://www.amazon.co.uk/Frenzy-Blu-ray- ... sim_d_h__7" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Seems like the only ones from the box set not available to buy or pre-order individually in the UK now are Shadow of a Doubt, The Trouble with Harry, Marnie and Topaz.

The big set has also been been split into two. Rather useful as the dodgiest transfers - from what I've read - are all in the second volume... (unless of course Universal re-do them, but that seems unlikely).

Damn, that's VERY useful. Vertigo is the ONLY title in the second volume that wasn't fucked up, and that's now available separately (better the U.S. Blu-Ray, which has the mono mix), so yes, this is great for everyone.

It's one of Hill's absolute bests. Very exciting.

Not a masterpiece or anything but despite some dated content, I like it. One of Newman's most enjoyable performances.

Nice, haven't seen this since every history class I ever had from grades five through ten. What can I say, Oklahoma loves itself!

I just watched it on Netflix streaming a month ago for the first time in forever. Still inconsistent with some decent scenes here and there, and a super hot Kidman. That opening and ending dying/coming back routine are still blech, but the 70mm photography should be impressive if the Blu-ray is done right.

I just watched Intolerable Cruelty last week, and I found it to be delightful, if obviously lighter than the Coens' other work. Hopefully it will eventually get its time in the sun, much like how Big Lebowski managed to escape being that waste of time they made after Fargo.

I like it quite a bit as well for the "Coens doing 30s screwball comedy" light fluff that it is.

Also, this leaves just Barton Fink (Fox), The Man Who Wasn't There (Universal), and The Ladykillers (Disney) of the Coen catalog films needing Blu-ray release.

Universal only has rights to Fletch, Fletch Lives, A Simple Wish and The Island. So, I guess with Fletch and The Island already out they went with A Simple Wish over Fletch Lives.
