By the way if anyone wants to get closer to the experience of playing Global Thermonuclear War, I highly recommend Defcon!

Why can't you just use the Lena Dunham thread like the rest of us?

A strange game. The only winning move is not to play. How about a nice game of chess?

Surprisingly cheap, only 4 euros per film. Amazon lists it as a 20 disc set, but since most of his films are less than 90 minutes long, have only mono audio and no special features, MGM could fit 2 films per disc at perfectly normal bitrates.

I'm assuming that other territories will follow soon.

It's better than half the films in the set

Melinda and Melinda isn't a masterpiece, but I'd say that domino is on to something. It's underrated and unduly maligned.

I love Melinda and Melinda, but then I like films that are exercises in craft.

As for the box set - it may be a a DVD set that was inadvertently listed as Blu-ray, so people shouldn't get their hopes up too high.

MGM has already released an equivalent box set in the US for DVD. I doubt they'd bother doing it again.

I don't see how another DVD release of these films does any good. Frankly, most of these films were treated poorly on DVD. Crimes and Misdemeanors is a prime example - the scene around the fireplace looks like a 32 bit videogame.

Also,

Well, I'm investigating this...and so far...

Amazon Spain confirmed in an online chat that according to the catalog information that they have it is a blu-ray release. They are going to get more info and email me - likely by Monday to confirm.

20th Century Fox Home Entertainment International has emailed me that they're looking into this as well as if they're will be a U.S. release of the DVD or blu-ray box set.

Fingers crossed...

Uh, like the Kubrick box set from Warner? Why wouldn't they re-release it?

A tweet from Lou Lumenick says that "MGM will be issuing a 90th anniversary set in 2013, possibly in collaboration with the owner of its pre-'86 library, Warner Bros."

The recently released UK disc of "The Terminator" is newly remastered and looks pristine. It's an AVC encode on a BD50, rather than the old MPEG2 on a BD25 of the US disc. Unfortunately the mono track is not included, and the same extras from the US Blu-ray, meaning the most of the extras from the DVD is still missing. MGM still has no plans to release this in the US. We can all hope for a possible Criterion... why not?

(1) Just because a U.S. release hasn't been announced doesn't mean that one isn't going to happen. (2) It's not likely that Fox/MGM would license out one of their top sellers.

Not my favorite Allen titles, but both wonderful films. Still, it would be nice to know if there's any indication that MGM will speed up its Allen upgrade schedule beyond the rate of two a year.

Two of my least-favorite Allens, but due for a reevaluation so maybe on sale...

Warren Oates, most of not all of MGM's Allens pop up on MGMHD looking good, if sales are there so are the transfers ready to go

I actually love Hannah - I'm less of an Allen fan these days, but that's still one of my three or four favorites from him. One time in college, a friend re-counted the "rape" scene at lunch, just reciting the dialogue in the same way it was spoken in the film, and more than a few people sat down after she started the story, not realizing she was talking about a movie...absolutely riotous.

2 of my favorite Allens. Here's hoping Crimes and Misdemeanors is next.

I wish Crimes and Misdemeanors was next. Sleeper will be good to wait with, but I wish they stuck to releasing my faves.
