Well, how "small" are the chances to get a Box of Rivette that is similar to that of Rohmer? It would certainly be an instant buy for me!!

I wouldn't count on criterion, but those French labels(Potemkine, Gaumont) that are behind Godard's and Rohmer's boxes - who knows - one day they might endeavour even regardless of how esoteric Rivette is.

For those interested in Out 1, the Melbourne International Film Festival and Mubi.com have been collaborating on a series of short video essays on the film, with the help of a number of filmmakers and critics (the latter category including Jonathan Rosenbaum and Adrian Martin). So Kino Lorbeer is releasing PONT DU NORD. Any KL-specialist on here that has news if they plan on more Rivette?

Last month, the CNC pledged funding to Sunshine Films for restorations of Out 1 and Out 1: Spectre.

Sadly, I fear restoring a 13 hour movie will leave very little time and money to restore Duelle, Celine et Julie and Bande des Quatre.
Fingers crossed for a soon-to-be-announced release date and good sales!!

Now, all we need to do is wait for the releases, right?

So what do you guys think of Merry-Go-Round? While I put MGR and Bande des Quatre on the same level, I find myself thinking more and more of BDQ, and only very little of MGR.
The reason for this seems to lie with the execution of MGR. The spliced in musicians seem out of place and... well, I am not a fan of Maria Schneider's "thing" this side of Last Tango. I also think that the ending is... rushed. It looks brilliant, and works to great effect, but I am still not sure I understood just what the hell is going on there.

Gang of Four was my first Rivette film -- and is still one of my favorites. Merry-Go-Round seems a lot more "chaotic" -- and does not feature Bulle Ogier.

I saw Gang of Fear near the end of a retrospective - in hindsight, it would have benefitted from being shown earlier. It certainly stands out to me now, as the one of his films I'd have LOVED to have a sequel to.

I would say MGR is the most chaotic one, even. Not in a good way.

Really looking forward to those restorations (especially to Duelle & Noroit), I hope we won't be surprised by the lack of English subs. meanwhile just watched my first bad Rivette - Va Savoir. Oh dear, luckily it was't my first Rivette, otherwise I would have definitely missed his classics from the 70s.

Va Savoir isn't one of my favorites by Rivette, though I thought it was pretty decent and would like to re-watch eventually... but I have to say that Hélène de Fougerolles in that film is the very epitome of beauty.

We saw a Harvard student production of the original play (translated). I don' recall much about the play, but at the time -- seeing this seemed to shed some additional light on Rivette's film. ;~}

We should still hold out - I doubt these restorations will hit BD's before the year 2016. :/

As for bad Rivettes - the only one I didn't really like (and manage to finish) is Haut Bas Fragile.

Loved this too. Maybe not ever single second -- but almost all of it (despite never managing to see it in subtitled form).

I would actually say - from what I have seen so far - that it is his most aimless one. I can see what he tried to do, but to me, he didn't succeed. So far.

Any further word on "Out 1" bluray? Still a 2015 release? What label?

Also, I gave up on a R1 release of "Celine et Julie Go Boating" and ordered the BFI DVD. I never double dip, so whoever eventually releases this in R1 lost out on a sale. It's just taking waaaaaaaay too long in R1.

Carlotta Films is releasing Out 1, and as far as I've seen it will be released by the end of the year.
