well we probably still have an eclipse to be surprised by, three months is about their max without releasing one, and they always release on in january...

I'm thinking Rossellini history films volume 2 maybe.

How 'bout the long-awaited Naruse eclipse? I'm just sayin'...

I think the Rossellini/Bergman boxset would come before that.

I'm a big Wenders fan, so I'll keep my fingers crossed for a Road Movie trilogy.

Hope so, too. But the Rossellini/Bergman films deserve much better than Eclipse.

The last 2 years there was significant Rossellini in January, for what it's worth... In 2009 there was the Eclipse History Films set and the CC LOUIS XIV, while in 2010, this year, it was the CC WAR TRILOGY...

If this is true, why is no one else leaking this information?

Also, how can we intercept his mail so we can find out the announcements a few hours earlier?

I had all but given up on the Fuller reissues. Christ, they were promising those like three or four years ago!

I wish Pickup on South Street was in contention for a blu-upgrade.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here, Thieves Highway, Night and the City and Rififi. Jules needs the BD love too!

Perhaps with these re-issues, we'll see Park Row as well?

That would certainly qualify for the out of nowhere release, wouldn't it?

I don't know. They released it on laser and I was always sort of surprised Home Vision ended up handling it on DVD originally.

Speaking of Fuller, it'd be nice if Forty Guns was afforded the BR it so richly deserves. I can't believe that it wouldn't be in the running the next time Criterion licenses a set of titles from Fox.

Via CriterionCast:

Will @Criterion spine # 552 be James L Brooks' Broadcast News? Signs point to yes.

No surprise, of course.

In response to a Facebook question concerning the status of the Andrei Rublev restoration today, Criterion said, "Still working on it..."

I can survive for another decade, probably, on that crumb of Andrei Rublev hope.

Criterion Cast also posted trailers for Basil Dearden's Sapphire and The League of Gentlemen.

I've waited to see Rublev on the condition CC will inevitably release a better transfer. I decided that a few years ago...patience is almost at length's end.

So, will Jan. releases will be announced today? It's getting to be around that time...

They've said on Facebook that new releases will be announced by the end of the day.

As for Andrei Rublev, there's a Russian BD with English subtitles that's supposed to be really nice (people here gave it great reviews), although it is the 185minute version of the film, not Criterion's 205minute.

Looks like a Basil Dearden-Michael Relph Eclipse set is due immiment announcement then... (and seeing as they collaborated on a prolific scale it's likely to be more than these two titles and Victim.)

I've been waiting for a Dearden set from Optimum for what seems like years; if it comes from Criterion, all the better.
