Wow, I didn't even get the "Heaven's Skate" thing. I just saw some frontier guy on roller skates and thought that was obvious enough.

yeah, that's a fairly impressive clue by them. not on par with the lean cow herd, but quite clever.

speaking of Heaven's Gate, I emailed Mulvaney about Criterion screening the new restoration at New York Film Festival like they're doing at Venice. fingers crossed.

Wow, I just saw the guy and thought he looked like the guy from the New Year's drawing and I thought there were skates in one of his films.

edit: just looked at New Years picture and they look nothing a like.

Have we set a new record on time between clue and announcement? 15 days for Heaven's Gate?

Folks knew it was on the way for a while, though. Not sure if that's a huge deal in this case.

Three Cs, all shackled together. Reminds me of the Coens' O Brother, though I'm not sure.

Each of those Cs should be able to escape easily.

It could be a triple clue (each C representing a release) or a clue for a trilogy.

Maybe they're just telling us all about their next triple-C film, guys. And how they've been shackled to a new licensing deal!

It can't be Down by Law, but it's another film with a triple-prisoner film dynamic? That could be O Brother, Where Art Thou. That said, I'm not sure if the Coens are keen on working with Criterion, or whether Criterion could get the rights to that film anyway.

It could be a trilogy for something, but the clues are vague at this point.

You've got over 7000 posts on the Criterion Forum - you don't keep up with this stuff?!

That's already gotten a Blu-ray release in the U.S.... I doubt it.

A search for Three Seas on imdb brought up a Cannes-nominated 1957 film from Inida, about which I know nothing but perhaps it's well known to others... ?

[edit: The original title is Pardesi but wikipedia has its English title as Journey Beyond the Three Seas. Can anyone who has seen this speak to the presence of bear traps or hand cuffs in it?]

A Man Escaped, Straw Dogs reissue/Blu, and one more movie prominently featuring handcuffs/incarceration (may well be O Brother Where Art Thou)?

Did they lose the rights to Le Trou?
