Criterion deserves props for their Italian releases.
This year alone Fists in the Pocket, Seduced and Abandoned, and
Hands over the City were all new to me and I thoroughly enjoyed.
Hope they keep them coming.

I really hope Bitter Rice and possibly Rome ore 11 are released this year.

Ok...back on topic.

With me on that list, I recommend you check out Dylan's blog as he and I have extremely similar taste in films. He's got a bunch of good little reviews in the archives and I agree with nearly every one of them.

I just checked his profile and it seems hes removed the link, you could PM and ask for it though.

Forum Member of the Year - My old board bud David Hare, for restraining his femininity in PM's, sending rips of headshattering films.. he broke his tie in my mind with zedz (the other guy around here who stuns me viz the number of films he's seen that I either a) havent, or b) thought I was the only one who did) by posting, while tipsy, the line "Christ started drinking early."

Richard Cranium Award - Invunche, obviously, for being genuinely, petulantly defensive when a serve is returned.

ok, i'll start something on the dvd news section. if anyone thinks there is a better place to put it, by all means move it, (and make it sticky if possible).
i'll do a simplified version of gringo tex's poll.

i knew i shouldn't have started posting here, i'm never going to get any work done again...

ps, cheers for the hint SncDth...

Richard Cranium: I guess Yilmaz is the easy pick since he is no longer a member and I don't have to hear about it.

EDIT: Another write-in for some sort of public condemnation of the wacky C. :P

I'd like to submit a ballot, but I haven't watched any of the Criterion DVDs I bought this year yet.

... except Playtime, so that one gets my vote for best reissue, as well as a vote for release of the year.

... and Koko, clearly the disappointment of the year.

And, I guess since I have them on my shelf, I'll give the packaging design award to A nos amours, which looks awfully smart. I wanted to give a vote to the original Viridiana, but that would just incite riot.

Is the Janus behemoth eligible for release of the year? Not that I have it.

I'm probably cutting off voting this Saturday unless someone can give a reason not to.

Uh, almost everybody not yet having the chance to actually see any of the December releases isn't a good enough reason?

yes, it does seem kind of early to cut-off voting. can you not allow at least another full week (eg to december 17th)?

Lucky you! Unfortunately, most of us have to wait until after they're released. And shipped. Sometimes Very Far Away.
