You’re being sarcastic, right?
Yeah, I really hope this is a joke. Should their social media person just have to use vacation time because you're impatient about announcements?
Goodness. Didn’t know this would cause such strife. The text joke font has still yet to be solved by me.

Have they ever skipped a month entirely for announcements?

No, and they're not going to now.

I can't believe we have to go through this again today and potentially tomorrow.

It's like a Kanye West sorta-rhyme, the kind of linguistic stretch I can really admire

If they do drop the titles today, I hope they are kind enough not to drag this out all day
If the holdup is a matter of crossing a t or dotting a lower case j then they very well may take all day.

EDIT: Though it looks as though Haxan's cover is out, so announcements finally do look imminent.

It’s pretty good but it obviously doesn’t top “collagen/apologin’”.

So with Haxan definitely confirmed now, we can assume the delay was a side effect of Bressonaire messing in witchcraft

Almost certainly the Godzilla box with an announcement at the Toho SDCC panel tomorrow then, I would think.

So #1000 is either the Godzilla set or we're waiting until next month. Compelling twist!

Criterion just tweeted 1000 will be announced next week. The fun(?) continues.

Excepting the almost certain Godzilla box, these were the only correct guesses:

Upgrade of Hãxan (this would fit with a Halloween horror/witch theme, and even though silents are rare and we've had two this year,
I feel like there'll be at least one more)

I suppose I get negative points for my joke about them not releasing Matewan because of the Amazon strike

edit: oh yeah... there were a couple of guesses for "beatnik clue" which ended up being WWWK.

I was thinking that once they highlighted Matewan in the HTF podcast/video that HTF was able to post the other day that it may be announced sooner rather than later.

If there's no announcement until next week, that implies that either a) they won't announce the set on this panel or b) the Godzilla set isn't #1000.

Yep. Email statement changed my speculation odds.

Are rights issues likely the hold up for Godzilla? And doesn't that make it a strong likelihood for ending the 1000 speculation?

We so rarely get silent films from Criterion, who would have thought we would get 2 releases (4 films) in one month!!!
It's a real outlier of a month. I think only the Eclipse set with five Naruse silents beats it!

Three things for now:
~ Very excited for the two upgrades, especially the von Sternberg set and definitely will be getting them in November.
~ The cover for Häxan gives me a Midsommar vibe.
~ Yet am feeling a bit underwhelmed with these announcements. I can’t be the only one, right?

I imagine it's because of the lead-up (who wouldn't be disappointed with this troll job!), and the fact that there's only two new titles added to the collection. But I could be wrong.

I can only speak for my workplace - it's mid-July, and a ton of people go on vacation around the same time during this part of the year, for obvious reasons. It's entirely possible that Criterion just had lower bandwidth than usual to put announcements together, especially with the Godzilla press conference coming. There could be totally banal reasons behind this "troll job"

Still doesn't excuse such a benign set of announcements though
