The pie fight footage most definitely still exists in the BFI archive. Though I've never seen it, I know several people who have. I also own the Doctor Strangelove laserdisc. Some of the 60s atomic ephemera is a real hoot. George McCulvey's My Teenage Fallout Queen is a pretty cute extra, but its relation to the film itself is non-existent.

The man playing the sax has hair almost like Bill Pullman-and he plays the sax in Lost Highway. A hint, maybe? Also, he's walking on a road that cuts off, like a "lost highway"

Isn't that an Argento bird on the playing card? Also hoping for Buñuel's Robinson Crusoe

The man playing the sax is Robert Montgomery in Here Comes Mr. Jordan.okcmaxk wrote:The man playing the sax has hair almost like Bill Pullman-and he plays the sax in Lost Highway. A hint, maybe? Also, he's walking on a road that cuts off, like a "lost highway"

Probably coming anyways; even if the speculation is a bit of a stretch but Criterion posting the full drawing and then breaking it down into three separate enlarged images could be read as a clue for Blowup.

Well it's four images, not three and aren't there four movies in the Road "trilogy" seems a more likely fit than blow up.ianungstad wrote:Probably coming anyways; even if the speculation is a bit of a stretch but Criterion posting the full drawing and then breaking it down into three separate enlarged images could be read as a clue for Blowup.

The methodology fits BLOW-UP, Thomas in his photographic studio breaking down a picture into individual enlargements...

Except he takes one image blows it up, rephotographs it and blows it up again and so on. They're not blowing up the image closer and closer.

Re: 2016 New Year's Drawing
So, I was wondering about the Queen of Hearts card, as nothing put forward really seemed to make any sense. I remembered that there was some movie with Hearts in the title, and then remembered that Criterioncast list of rumored MGM titled (which I strongly suspect is identical to the list of films that were leaked to certain members here, present company not included). Anyway, one of the few remaining films from that list was King of Hearts. Now, I know you'll go, "but wait Minkin, that's a queen on the clue." But I'll counter with: given the JFK assassination framework, the king has been killed, thus is absent, since one cannot simply have a queen card without the king. IDK, it was the best I could do, plus we know its almost certainly coming out, and I haven't heard of anything better (other than Polan making a schoolboy mistake with his card suits). I'll throw it in, as I'm sure, given the above arguments about the specific intricacies of an image being blown-up in accordance with the movie or not, that someone can make better sense of why there isn't a king in the image.

The car and the Vote JFK button is for The Kennedy films of Robert Drew and Associates and not for Stone's JFK. The Queen of Hearts with the waving hand still need to be determined from that part of the clue. Can the Queen be waving at the Kings as to link those two clues? For Kings and Queen which had been mentioned already.

With Manchurian Candidate being released in 2016, the Queen of Hearts seems simply to be a late clue for this movie rather than for a release that still needs to be announced.

Why would they picture Queen of Hearts instead of Queen of Diamonds of Manchurian Candidate?

Re: 2016 New Year's Drawing
I still think the Queen of Hearts is a hint for something separate from the JFK documentaries. None of the documentaries are specifically about Jackie Kennedy, and it's redundant to make such a specific reference to her when the JFK button and the car are bluntly obvious. If anything, it should have been the Jack of Hearts, because according to the article linked to above, that is the card JFK was assigned. I also don't think the queen should be linked with the kings for Kings and Queen because if that were the case, wouldn't they just have four face cards (3 kings and a queen)? The kings in the drawing are clearly modeled after the Magi, which hints strongly at Three Kings (or, as someone mentioned previously, perhaps an upgrade of King of Kings).
But I'm wrong about these 90% of the time, so....

As to the Bling Ring / Fantastic Planet where we haven't really had too solid of a clue.
Criterion/Janus has been picking up a number of titles from Pennebaker Films lately, and I recently noticed that Pennebaker owns the rights to the OOP Ziggy Stardust: The Movie. I'm sure Criterion will release this film anyway, but might this be a better interpretation of the planet than the above mentioned titles?

I would love that. It makes sense. CC has been on a music run the last couple of years.

Criterion sure made short work of this set of clues, didn't they? Aside from Flight of the Phoenix we've seen everything on here as far as I can tell and it's only been eight months since it was put out!

Well, Flight of the Phoenix turned out to just be Phoenix.Ribs wrote:Aside from Flight of the Phoenix we've seen everything on here as far as I can tell and it's only been eight months since it was put out!
The last remaining clue is for the angel on the Dr Strangelove bomb. This must be a clue for another film, as why would Polan draw that? The consensus was for either an upgrade of Exterminating Angel or for Fallen Angels (since Kino likely lost the rights). Both are strong possibilities, so I guess we will have to wait for whichever gets announced first. These things can take years - like we're still waiting on Spinal Tap / 4month 3weeks 2days - from the 2015 New Years Clue.
Might anyone think of something angel-related that might match the angel on the bomb better? Only Angels Have Wings?? Then why on a bomb?

Maybe it's Lubitsch's Angel, which notoriously bombed and wrecked Dietrich's career for a couple years

Er, so he'd be flying and *someone* needs to be on the bomb to be from Dr. Strangelove? There's another clue for it but of course Here Comes Mr. Jordan also features angels if someone wants to concoct an explanation for that one too.Minkin wrote:Might anyone think of something angel-related that might match the angel on the bomb better?
