Hi Rodrigo,

Thanks for your email. Generally when a Criterion title, such as THE
BRD TRILOGY, has gone
out of print it is because we lost the rights, and despite our efforts
to renew, we were unable to. (It's definitely not for lack of
interest!) If we should ever recover the rights to any of our
out-of-print titles, we will happily re-release them. However, to the
best of my knowledge, there are no immediate plans to re-release this
box-set.

I hope this information is helpful and please let me know if you have
any more questions. Thank you for supporting the Criterion Collection!
Sincerely,

Jon Mulvaney
I'm presuming there were rights issues with Lola, since Maria Braun and Veronika Voss are still on Hulu.

I really wish they had made that clear off the bat. I seem to remember an imminent upgrade/re-release being announced, so I got rid of mine right away for much less than it's going for now. Really cannot imagine who else Lola would have gone to...Cohen? Shout? It's not Studio Canal, is it?

Pretty sure that's a very standard, automated response to any email asking about a title's OOP status. A similar response occurred from Criterion when asking if Breathless was OOP, after being discontinued for an eventual dual-format upgrade.

Yep, that's the boilerplate for any title not already announced. "Mulvaney" AKA the Criterion Interns is/are not as lippy as they once were

I would not worry about the BRD Trilogy. It might have gone OOP for as simple of a reason as Wellspring no longer being the rights holder. Janus bought the rights to a huge number of Fassbinder titles a couple years ago (including the films in the BRD Trilogy set). Here is a list of at least some of the known titles they licensed (which might not even be everything!). So there isn't a licensing problem, probably just waiting for a restoration or something.

You can officially take Golden Age of Television off the master list. It has come back in new packaging.

The Naked Prey is OOP on the Criterion Website. I don't know why. Isn't it a Paramount movie?

Amazon has The Naked Prey listed as in stock on November 18th, but it's from a third party vendor and only fulfilled through Amazon. There's no packaging change excuse here that I can see.

Hopefully a blugrade is coming on Monday? I'd love to see this one upgraded, used to love watching with my dad!

I would love to see an upgrade of The Naked Prey. I had e-mailed them about it like 2 or 3 years ago and they said there were no plans, but that was 2 or 3 years ago!

Why they do this? I hope it's not a new sales strategy because in my case, it's working.

From what others are saying, it's to cut off orders for a while so that they can remove some elements and re-package the set entirely.

It would be really nice if Criterion addressed OOP concerns directly. Like, if only to confirm that a title is, indeed, out of print. If they don't say anything, we could assume it's a simple repackaging or similar hiccup.

In related news, I have three shrink-wrapped copies of VAMPYR that just drastically dropped in price! Inquire within!

Wasn't this officially announced as going OOP on the site last year?

Indeed it was. The tweet where they announced it is here, from last December. Strange that it's come back with no word from Criterion. Maybe they just found some stock in storage? Anyway, I guess we can just hope it's back for good.

I'm afraid that the Hiroshi Teshigahara Box Set is on the verge of going out of print. Anyone know any of the details on this? I regret putting off buying it for so long.

It's not "on the verge," it has been out of print for some time (as discussed in its dedicated thread). Now, whether that means a repackaging, reissue, or they've lost the rights, who knows

Actually, it says "Buy at Amazon.com" (same as the Sternberg set and "The Naked Prey"), not "OUT OF PRINT", which tends to be an "out of stock" indicator. I suspect it will be back. Who knows, they may be working on a Blu upgrade given the recent new scans of the films.

This is now listed as OOP on MMM
Missing a one-liner (unlinked, and whatever "MMM" is) on page 7 of 9 of the dedicated thread is hardly a gross oversight on my part. And given the absence of an explicit "Out of Print" statement from Criterion, I'd contend we're dealing in Kremlinology on this matter in any case.

It is when 13 out of the next 14 posts are speculating on the meaning of its out of print status. Seriously, search function is not hard. And if you can't figure out what MMM is when it is linked directly above your very post, do svidaniya

The term "MMM" in your original post had zero context, and no link. Kremlinology followed. I'll leave it at that.
