Re: Criterion Newsletter (Part 3)
A few months ago there was an image if a rat. Did we ever end up getting the film that related to?

We've still got until tomorrow to worry about whether or not they're sending out a newsletter.jfish226 wrote:Are we getting a newsletter soon?

Haha, I was trying to think of a way to make that be Pan's Labyrinth, but that makes more sense.

Satyricon was pretty lame this year. Too many dwarves.

I have not seen this Fellini film. What is the general impression of it? It doesn't seem to have high marks near the praise of his other heavy hitters.

Re: Criterion Newsletter (Part 3)
Donald Sutherland has to be like, what, seven or eight dwarfs high though, so Criterion should pair it with Casanova just to satisfy everyoneswo17 wrote:Satyricon was pretty lame this year. Too many dwarves.

Basically, it's like if you were making a cake that called for 3 cups of Fellini, but you accidentally put in 10 cups instead, and then forgot to add any other ingredients.aox wrote:I have not seen this Fellini film. What is the general impression of it?

It's my favorite Fellini. But you don't have to take my word for it -- here's someone you might trust more.

Re: Criterion Newsletter (Part 3)
Which is kind of why I love it. It's sort of like the most beautiful nonsense that gives the appearance of being sensible ever. It also helps that Fellini is genuinely playing and sticking with the source in a way that breeds structure where a lot of his wackier films don't.swo17 wrote:Basically, it's like if you were making a cake that called for 3 cups of Fellini, but you accidentally put in 10 cups instead, and then forgot to add any other ingredients.aox wrote:I have not seen this Fellini film. Re: Criterion Newsletter (Part 3)
It's a "silver age" work. Think Hitchcock's Frenzy; a good picture in its own right, and you'd probably have your socks knocked off if it was a non-name filmmaker, but you'll be disappointed if you think you're going to get something on the level of, say, Rear Window.aox wrote:I have not seen this Fellini film. Is it true Richard Simmons appears as an extra in Satyricon?

Re: Criterion Newsletter (Part 3)
My first thought was The Devils too, but that pic definitely indicates something else.... It seems not so likely that they'd release another Fellini just after La Dolce Vita, particularly when it makes a nice twofer w/ Roma, but after a Fellini drought, it's nice they're catching up (though I'd be much more excited for a Trilogy of Loneliness (La Strada/il Bidone/Nights of Cabiria) box.HistoryProf wrote:clever one. Nights of Cabiria would be a dream on BD. There's no way they'll get that back though, right?

Not until it's time to release it on 8K hyperdisc.
