Yes, but it is a Canadian disc which would have no bearing on Criterion.

The Canadian Alliance Blu of Polytechnique seems to be going for $100 or more on Amazon CA, so likely OOP.

From the screen caps and description, it looks like a haunting film. I hope to see it. Sounds like it would make a fine addition.

You had me contemplating unloading my unopened copy before opening & watching it, but it looks like there's a newer release from Universal still available. Darn.

Or perhaps you were thinking of the Maelstrom DVD, which is going for $100 CDN & which I have watched 4 or 5 times & would have a more difficult time parting with until a blu-ray is announced. Though I do think Maelstrom is the most likely candidate for Criterion's 1st Villenue on disc.

This is the Amazon CA listing of Polytechnique linked from the Blu-Ray.com review. The Amazon US listing starts at $54.99, so thanks for the alternate link with the much better price. I am intrigued by the film at this point, so glad there are copies at reasonable prices.

Polytechnique is not a bad film, it has a quite a many interesting visual moments, but IMO Villenueve has gotten better by every movie he has made. This is on the lower end of the learning curve. BUT the bluray contains a fascinating double take of the movie: it has the English version of the film. Meaning Villeneuve shot two different language versions. Unfortunately in the English version the acting becomes stiffer than in the French version. The dialogues feel clumsy, you sense the actors struggling with the language. Anyhow, the BD presents an interesting curiosity.

Throwing it out there that the Villeneuve listing is probably for a Filmstruck short film pairing.

Tomás Gutiérrez Alea / Memories of Underdevelopment
Also pages for Jean Dreville and Georges Lampin, who (I think) only have Napoleon as a shared credit but I may be wrong

Yeah, that seems considerably more likely, considering I doubt they'd be loading phantom pages with uncredited extras (if they do that kind of stuff, they usually do it later in the month). Sounds like an interesting anthology film, plus it's got only 75 ratings on IMDb and 4 watches on Letterboxd, so if anyone puts it out it seems like a good thing. Dunno if it'd sell very well, but maybe as part of an Eclipse or something, I guess?

The clincher would be if André Cayatte gets a mention

This has been added to Filmstruck under the Criterion channel.

Great to see even if it is his weakest available film.

I'm confused...which Hu Wei is it? I could not connect the name with any Chinese filmmakers I know of.

I see. I guess Butter Lamp is the most likely for him.

That would be great, but maybe Scorsese talked them into releasing the recent restro of the Edwards-scripted My Sister Eileen!

Very excited about seeing it tonight at Film Forum with a QnA afterwards with photographer Brian Hamill.

If the film joins the collection I wonder if the disk will include any supplements.

Do we think Mother and Son could be the Aleksandr Sokurov film?

Where did you get that?

Any hints, news, rumors about his Russian Ark joining the collection?

I didn't care for Mother and Son at all, but loved Father and Son. If Criterion releases the whole trilogy as a box, I hope they get a hold of the full 97 min. version of Father and Son, rather than the 82 min. edit that was released in the US.
