Any speculation as to which film Curtiz's mystery web page will reference for a future release should be taken with a grain of salt until Criterion officially announces- but since we brought it up... an idea occurred to me that a Mildred Pierce inclusion could be coupled with a possible release of Mommie Dearest. In 2013 we saw that some of the cast and crew for Mommie Dearest were given sequential mystery pages of their own. This film might especially be a possibility since Paramount let its own dvd go OOP and its rights were not taken over by WB or StudioCanal. What do you think, is this a probability of a Mildred Pierce-set or back-to-back spine numbers?

True, but then again we didn't think that Columbia would give It Happened One Night to Criterion either.

Sony and WB operate in a very different way. Sony has been giving their premier titles to CC and TT for quite some time as they feel the blu ray market is not something they want to spend a lot of time and money cultivating. WB on the other hand, takes great efforts to promote their catalogue. Especially from the golden age of Hollywood. That's why they created the Archive line.

The WB films I see coming to CC are foreign films and films that don't fit their mainstream customer profile.

Oh man, I really hope this means they've picked up the Lone Wolf and Cub rights (that soon expired after that one company in the US put out that shitty boxset - thus somebody must have attained the rights). I picked up the Eureka set a few years ago and have loved all of these films. They really could use some real extras though + new transfers.

Well if Buichi Saito is added, then you'll know for sure. I know it's weird sounding, but they might have the Yokai films instead.

The Yokai films would be nice, but I think it is more likely that they licensed the Lone Wolf and Cub films when they picked up the Toho Zatoichis.

Actually, if I remember correctly a guy posted a list of films coming to Kino,Criterion,and Twilight Time, I think Tom Jones was on the list.

Other good candidates: Mademoiselle, A Taste of Honey, The Entertainer, Look Back in Anger, The Loved One.

Actually, a Tony Richardson boxset would be ideal. MGM has a bunch of his films.
