^ Nice! Don't miss booklets as much with poster fold-outs such as these.

According to the Blu-ray.com entry, My Own Private Idaho will be a digipak

That's probably just an assumption. DVD edition is a digipak and the Blu-ray edition carries over the book which would not fit into a plastic case.

Hello, fellow cinemaholics! Does anyone know whether Criterion is going to reissue the EJD set as Blu-ray only? I would so want to get the box, but not the double-format one with 13(!) disks.

Given that it would take some serious reconfiguring of digipak design and new sizing etc, the costs it would incur just to separate them just about guarantee it won't happen for what is already a boutique release on a boutique label. I mean, maybe, I guess anything can happen, but I wouldn't put it off due to a desire to pay the same for less discs in the future

Ok. It's just that I see The Throne of Blood separate Blu-ray is coming out in August (like some others a bit earlier), and I was hoping the Demy box set would follow the path. The packaging reconfiguration I believe would be minimal. I could be wrong, but it would require just resizing the individual digipacks and the casebox.

Btw, did they reissue the Tess standalone Blu-ray as another digipack or in a plastic case?

The Tess Blu is in a regular plastic case.

Tess was moved to a standard case which would be cheap and easy to change. The issue with the Demy set is that they have to completely redesign and resize the box and the respective digis since they wouldn't be porting them over to cases, and then print them. That would be more costly. *Maybe* when the print run runs out but I don't see it happening anytime soon. The price won't differ so honestly if you want it I'd just consider getting it.

And when digi box sets sell out a print run, like BRD criterion doesn't promptly issue a new printing.

Every time I see a new post made in this thread, I'm hoping they've revised the Mulholland Drive cover for the better.

By the way: Besides "Tess", "Foreign Correspondent", "The Big Chill", and now "Throne of Blood" (which is news to me), what other movies are being transitioned from Dual-Format to DVD/BD?

So, Newsnayr and I are working on a list of digipacks. Here is what we've come up with thus far:

"Replaced" means "digipack that has been replaced by a plastic case"
"early Blu cardboard" means that stupid thin case that came with the very first Blus, which has slowly been replaced with plastic.

002 - Seven Samurai (DVD + Blu)
004 - Amarcord (DVD + Blu)
005 - The 400 Blows (Blu - early cardboard, replaced; OOP - now plastic Dual)
017 - Salo (DVD + Blu)
029 - Picnic at Hanging Rock (Dual)
064 - The Third Man (DVD - OOP; Blu - early Blu cardboard, replaced; all OOP)

112 - PlayTime (DVD - OOP & was replaced with plastic)

247 - Slacker (DVD, replaced; Blu)
248 - Videodrome (DVD + Blu)- Not technically a digipack, since it has a plastic case inside a slipcover, but its designed a bit better than the standard plastic in slipcase.

250 - John Cassavetes: Five Films (DVD + Blu)
261 - Fanny and Alexander (DVD + Blu)
265 - Short Cuts (DVD, replaced)
277 - My Own Private Idaho (DVD)
281 - Jules and Jim (Dual)

309 - Ugetsu (DVD)
322 - The Complete Mr. Arkadin (DVD)

----------------------------------
Questions:
The Double Life of Veronique - DVD replaced?
Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters - Has the DVD been replaced?

Might anyone have any corrections or additions to that list? I'm generally not including plastic cases inside a slipcover as a digipack. Might anyone also know the answers to the four questions I've posed? Once this is hammered out, I'll post it to the Criterion FAQ list and keep it updated from there.

And I know that Moonrise Kingdom / My Own Private Idaho on Blu are rumored to be digipacks, but I'll wait to add it until we have some better confirmation.

The Man Who Fell To Earth was the same than Videodrome : thick DVD double case, with a slipcover.

Thanks Minkin for a very useful list. I love the digipaks - even the silly original bluray digipaks where the inner case falls out when you pick them up.

Love seeing that Warner logo on Day for Night, and the whole cover art is truly fucking gorgeous (easily Criterion's best in quite a while). Dressed to Kill seems like it will look better in person, but it's still not very good.

So, I went to BN today to check out the digipack situation. Discovered the following:

Battle of Algiers DVD (now in a plastic case)
Slacker DVD (plastic case now)

Does anyone know the digipack/plastic status of the following (they didn't have them in store):

Double Life of Veronique DVD
Mishima: Life in Four Chapters DVD

I know both were originally released as digipacks, but as is the trend with things lately, are they still in digipacks or have they been downgraded to plastic?

Alternative covers proposed for Mullholland Dr.

Current cover is still the best, but not really as great as one might had hoped. The other covers however..uhh...rush job? Not sure how balance space? Hmm.

Jeez, none of those alternate versions are great. Mostly the title treatment is what bothers me. I wish they would have gone with something painted like the Eraserhead cover.

I quite like the one with the street sign blocking out Naomi's eyes -- there's something almost Lynchian about it. The other alternates are a little bland and too similar to the pre-existing DVD cover, but still preferable to what we'll be getting.

I do like the blurred image of Watts and Harring at the top of the official cover, actually, it's just the ugly, misshapen mess of text below that ruins it.

I have the chirashi of this. In person, it looks dynamite––the dots are done in a dull gold ink. The postmodern weirdness is there in the framing of the images, the concentration of text at the top. I think this film suffers in poster form when they try and make it too much like a traditional movie poster. And the blurring on the Criterion looks so digital and so fake.

I have no idea what that tagline is, though. I'm a little afraid to discover what it means.

The old French DVD cover was overloaded with text, but I think it was quite OK :

It roughly translates to "There's something up with my head."

Nice! Thanks for the translation. kind of cool to place that line right in that space, then, as if the thought is emanating from the character's head.
