Huh. Could've sworn 'Band..' was a Studiocanal/Lionsgate?
It's Gaumont.

This surely means nothing, but That Hamilton Woman is the only non-Eclipse ITV Global Entertainment licensed film yet to get upgraded to Blu. It's obviously a post-#450 title, of which we've only seen one upgrade (The Last Days of Disco), but with Colonel Blimp announced I wouldn't be shocked to see it released in 2013-14.

Wild Strawberries Blu
Band of Outsiders Blu
Lord of the Flies upgrade
Pierre Etaix

Regarding Troell, I had heard that Criterion picked up the rights to Here's Your Life (1966) after the restoration played at Telluride and elsewhere. If "more Troell is in the works" is the only hint that points toward The Emigrants and The New Land, then they could have meant the earlier film instead.

I haven't done this before, but why not:

4 Months, 3 Weeks, and 2 Days
Repo Man
The Soft Skin
Grey Gardens BD
Summertime BD
Eclipse Etaix

Where are all the prognostications for THE SOFT SKIN coming from? Was there a recent announcement?

All bets are off today. We're going to get a very late announcement, possibly not even until tomorrow cuz they're at last minute pulling together in an Oshima at ATG eclipse set to fit in...

Boy
Death By Hanging
The Sun's Burial
Cruel Story Of Youth
Diary Of A Shinjuku Thief
Taboo (wishful thinking, though New Yorker will probably never get this out on blu)
The Man Who Put His Will On Film (more likely)

Swap Cruel Story with Night and Fog, and Taboo with The Ceremony. Then it becomes my dream boxset.

Not joking. Just saying what I would do today if I was them. Plus I don't think that it's too far out of the realm of possiblity, since Eclipse doesn't demand any planning for extras.

Even if they had planned on announcing some Oshima films I imagine that would be postponed. Criterion would more than likely want to avoid being seen as crass, exploitative, or attempting to "cash in" so close to the director's death.

It'd be totally impossible for them to announce a release on a moment's notice. Even with no extras and less work done on the transfers, Criterion still have to design covers, get marketing copy and announcements/listings prepared, etc. etc. The only way they could do a release like that is if they had been working toward it anyway.

Which is exactly what I was assuming since Boy is up on Hulu and The Ceremony, Death by Hanging and The Man Who Left his Will on Film are all Janus properties...

That leaves at least one film off though for a complete set.

@jwd5275: I guess I misunderstood what you meant by pulling a set together at the last minute. The idea of it is tantalizing, and I'd welcome it anytime.

Totally agree. In fact, I would think that if they had BOY or an Oshima Eclipse set planned for today, they'd think twice about announcing it for that very reason.

If you're talking about Diary of a Shinjuku Thief, I think that's always going to be an odd one out, since it's not entirely an ATG film but was co-produced with the Kinokuniya Book Store. Lord only knows what kind of rights complication that represents.

Unless you mean Dear Summer Sister.

Surely they wouldn't relegate those titles to Eclipse. They all deserve main line releases. (Night and Fog in Japan, The Sun's Burial and Cruel Story of Youth are also up on Hulu.)

You know what I did? I forgot about the films that have the DVDs licensed from Rank/Carlton and Granada but would presently be licensed by ITV Global for new editions.

I know I hate it when companies cash in on artists' deaths by making high-quality editions of their work more available than ever!
