It's a question of when, not if. I'd wait...

Ah, good to know. Well, let's hope rather sooner than later. :)

Where is this blurry 2012 photo? I never managed to find it

Starting here. There's a higher res photo kicking around somewhere as well.

It might have been asked before but is there any chance at all that Criterion will release von Trier`s Melancholia like they did Antichrist?

A Blu-ray from Magnolia has been up for pre-order for awhile, so I wouldn't count on it.

Just in case anyone is interested, I asked Mulvaney about Tree of Life while requesting a replacement for a missing DVD insert, and he said there is nothing planned in the near future.

Only bonus-materials junkies would benefit from a CC release of that film. Warner's Blu-ray transfer is pristine. Even the cover art - which utilizes the most ingenious of the theatrical posters - is satisfactory.

It's Fox, not Warners.

There's a higher res photo kicking around somewhere as well.
You can download it here and zoom it to your heart's content.

I can only make out:

Random Movies:

mk2 list:
Belle du Jour

Box set list?
Qatsi Trilogy ? (in corner)
Bergman
World On A Wire?

Blu ray upgrade list?:
several titles, a few crossed out
A Night To Remember

? Master list:
Life Of Oharu
? Of A ? (Story Of A Prostitute?...but the last word looks more like Apparition)
Two Brides ? The Dresser?
La Promesse
? Shipping/Shopping?
Intermission ? (I can't believe Criterion would release this, but it's MGM...Intermezzo would be better, but it definitely ends in an "N").
Coming Home
Talk Radio
Ministry Of Fear ? (last word looks more like Lang than Fear)
Spartacus ? (looks like something at the end)
Muriel's Summer?

IFC, Cinecitta & Gaumont lists are all covered below the title.

Has any news about Following surfaced in the last year? A decent little film, and I imagine something Nolan would be very into as to indulge his ego. Hope it hasn't slipped through the cracks.

Someone on the HTF awhile back mentioned Bonjour Tristesse and Sundays and Cybele as two titles that Criterion were in the process of licensing from Sony. I have no idea if that's true or not. Anyone hear any rumors about either film?

Certified Copy has yet to have a release so that may change.
Following it is a bit short so I would figure it would be put with shorts or another feature.
I can't really see Cave of Forgotten Dreams being their first Herzog... There's the 3-D thing, plus it has a very limited audience (Herzog freaks and Art History majors).

I don't want to see it enter the collection - the current Blu-ray is good enough - but you really don't have to be an art history major (or a "Herzog freak") to be interested in the subject matter of Cave of Forgotten Dreams. Its subject is no more esoteric than a number of Herzog's other documentaries, and for an independent documentary it actually did fairly well at the box office.

It was actually one of the biggest grossing docs of the year. More than $5 million. I think it was only outdone by a couple of industrial IMAX films, so in documentary terms it's a blockbuster.

Yeah, it actually played in the local multiplexes here, for more than a week in some cases.

Thanks for that photo. Actually, it DOES look like Haven's Gate on the bottom there. And Canterbury Tales a few bits above it. Quite interesting.

The essays will be interesting regarding Heaven's Gate. Will there be a staunch defense of the film on its own merits, or will they focus on the controversy and how this film single-handily changed the film industry.

Probably both: Criterion tends to strike a pretty fair balance with films like this.

I imagine this will be a fairly stacked release; aside from the longer cut of the film, we can probably expect the (un)making-of documentary narrated by Willem Dafoe (unless rights prevent it?), and fresh input from at least Kris Kristofferson and Isabelle Huppert (if their participation in previous releases is any indication). What I'm really hoping for are commentaries, preferably with a variety of participants (some combination of Cimino, the cast, and critics/scholars).

I was about to say I wouldn't expect anything from Cimino since he's dead, but hey, I look him up and he's still alive. Then I realize this is probably the third or fourth time where I thought he was dead only to find out he's still alive. It might sink in at some point.

Cimino pretty much refuses to talk to American critics about Heaven's Gate. Likewise, I wouldn't put it past him to refuse to collaborate on any project that includes Final Cut, which is an essential extra.

We might be lucky though and the delays (hasn't this been in the works for something like three years) have to do with coaxing Cimino.
