My only issue with the Hamlet picture is that, because of my obsessive compulsive nature, I keep wanting to reach into the picture and turn As You Like It on the right hand side the right way up so that it matches all of the other books!

Congrats to LQ for getting to the runner up group, a fantastic picture! The only possible thing I could think of to have improved it would perhaps have been if some headphones had been wrestled onto the owl, as in Criterion's newsletter clue! Though that might have broken some animal welfare rules!

You mean you didn't actually bury a copy of The Vanishing? [-(

Thanks, colin (et al). The headphones idea would've been fun, but had I brought it up it would've been quickly overruled, much like my attempt to put a santa hat on him last Christmas.

It's a shame--a few minutes in Photoshop and the grand prize could have been yours.

See? Seamless.

Vast improvement. Why didn't you offer your inspired Photoshop services earlier? I could've been swimming in a pile of free Criterions today.

If it's any consolation, I could draw you swimming in a pile of free Criterions in Microsoft Paint.

Ha, I think I'll find sufficient solace in mentally thumbing through my 10 Criterion bucks. But thanks.

Has anyone found anything that's actually cheaper using ten Criterion bucks than buying it at Barnes and Noble or what have you? I have a $10 certificate from them that's been sitting around for a while, and I don't know what to do with it.

Congrats to the forum members who got selected!

Mine was this (admittedly obvious) Videodrome:

Props to the Videodrome entry that got selected as a finalist.

I think the Criterion site's the only place selling the Blob at the new lower price-point

Piling a bunch of VHS tapes? Obvious as to why that didn't get chosen....

I tried to take a photo of the Brakhage set with some bulk, unspooled 35mm film that I had laying around but none of the cameras I had at my disposal was producing a good image. I did like the Videodrome winner, though!

There has been some speculation regarding the copy of Videodrome I used for my entry. It is NOT a bootleg. The winning entry began as one for "The Golden Age of Television" and I had a different idea for "Videodrome." I was not inclined to buy an original, since my idea would have done damage to it. So I created a facsimile using a cover from CC's website. As "Golden Age" evolved I realized it worked better with "Videodrome,” and since I had a proxy made, it seemed needless to not use it. Given other entrants used facsimiles when damage was possible, I hope the members of this page would understand the choice I made in the circumstances. I want to thank everyone who submitted entries, and made this a great contest. I did not think I had much of a chance of making the finals or winning, and I was humbled by the response I got. And thank you Criterion for this opportunity, on top of the work you do to keep the films we love in the public arena.
Best,
Brian Rose

Never been around for a flash sale. How long is it likely to last/what kind of discount? The thought of them hitting the number while commuting or while I'm at a wedding this weekend is a bummer.

When they hit 50,000 fans, they offered 50% off everything on their website (excluding preorders) for 50,000 seconds, or about 14 hours. At the rate they're going now, the sale could start in as soon as half an hour from now.
